This is overkill just for hiking. If you get the Fenix 6, make sure you get the "Pro" version as the non-pro versions don't have maps/navigation. The 6X doesn't have a non-pro version so you're safe there if you get the 6X.
Yes there is a function to navigate back to the starting point. From the Fenix 6 lineup, the 6X is the best one for hiking in my opinion. But the new version (Fenix 7) is already out, you should also consider a Fenix 7 model. It has better GPS than the fenix 6.
If the 6x with its 51 mm fits you, then this is currently the cheapest way to get a good navigation watch.
The normal Fenix 6 has 47mm - here you have to pay attention to the "pro").
The newer Fenix 7 has no pro version. Here, besides the size ( 7=47 mm; 7x=51 mm), pay attention to the glass.
Only the sapphire versions have pre-installed maps and 32 GB memory, the non sapphire watches have only 16 GB memory and the partial maps you may load yourself (for free).
Also another difference between Sapphire and non-Sapphire: Only the Sapphire also offers multiband GPS reception (= even more accurate positioning).
All in all, Garmin's range of watches is a science in itself.
Thank you.
Thank you.
tbh if you put a more descriptive title in your thread you'd get more responses....the thread title is not going to attract hikers, and it doesn't exactly stand out in the Fenix 6 forum...
Personally I think the Fenix 6x is overkill for hiking - but you provide no information on where you hike or long for, so maybe you really do need this...?
