Notifications show the app logo and sender first for 0.5s and then the content of the message.

Notifications show the app logo and sender first and then the content of the message. If I get 2 messages quickly ten i only see the sender of the first message and not the content because the second message appears before the content of the first one is showed so I only see the sender again and then the 2nd message. Can it be switched to show the content of the message instantly instead of showing the sender for 0.5s and then the content?

  • Am I really the only one with that problem? Vivoactive 4 was showing the whole message at once not with some preview of the app logo.

  • Possibly. May be a problem to the specific mobile device you have and how the OS handles notifications. I just get the notification without any app logo preceding it. If I get multiple notifications they just stack and I can action my way down through the stack.

  • The device is iphone 13 mini with newest iOS. Here's a video. Maybe  I didn't explain what I mean clear enough.

  • I'm using an Android phone which handles app notifications differently to iOS. Possibly also differences between Android versions and individual manufacturer modifications to Android.

I get the same screen sequence as you for single notifications. For multiple notifications I may or may not see the sender screen but the content screen are there and stacked in reverse order (most recent on top, oldest at the bottom).

  • Yes I agree that eventually it's all there stacked in reverse order (which also bothers me but that's another thing).

But my point is that when you receive 2 messages really quickly one after another then I see the sender, it wants to switch to content but the next message interrupts so I see the sender again and then the content of the 2nd message.

Solution would be to show just the content (which also contains the sender on the top) instead of 2 screens per one message. That's how it worked on Vivoactive 4.

My question would be whether it can be turned off in fenix 6 but I think I went through all the options and found nothing.

  • As far as I know there is no way to disable this first screen. I suspect the majority of users never even see this screen unless they are looking directly at the watch when a notification arrives. So I agree that I can't see any loss of function by removing the first screen.

Whether or not you like the reverse order for notifications will always be a personal preference. For the notifications I receive having the most recent on top works for me. But I can see that for other types of notifications, social media noise for example, having the oldest on top would work better

  • I wouldn't agree that majority never see this screen. First there is a vibration that makes you look on the screen and there it is. But no point in arguing.

Thank you for your answers and discussion. At least I know that that's how it should work and it was changed in fenixes (like i said Vivoactive 4 works differently). Probably it will never be changed so I'll have to get used to it.

  • I agree with you! It is very annoying especially if many messages are coming in the matter of seconds. If there is like 3 messages in 3 seconds all what you'll see is just either your watch face or animation of the app logo sliding up. The second problem is that if you had a long dialog and you started scrolling this dialog on the watch, all your scrolling progress will be lost the moment a new message will be sent to your phone. In a nutshell, watch is unusable if many messages comes at once.

  • I have this issue as well and it detracts from the value of notifications on my watch (I have the Forerunner 265S). Showing the app logo at first instance is useless and wish it could be switched off as I often get multiple texts in quick sequence and can't even see them.
