Fenix 6 Pro GPS Track Teleported Me

I've been pretty satisfied with the GPS performance so far, the watch was drifting here and there in the woods, but today during my run it got out of control. My Fenix 6 pro teleported me 5 km away. As always before starting activity I wait till the GPS becomes ready (green) and I tend to start my runs at the same place. I've got newest stable software: 22.10, GPS: 5.30, for runs I use GALILEO mode, which so far was good enough. I haven't run any new paths today.

Below you can see the tracked path, while it should be somewhere close to the red line I drew. As you can see around the last 1 km the watch got the position right. Are there any logs you need to analyse the issue?

  • Same issue, appeared today for the first time ever.

In red, you can see the actual course I've been running. The dotted lines signal a segment where I paused the recording. As you can see, the recording is not only completely off but also the end doesn't match the start (which did in reality). IIRC, during the run, the map showed the correct position.

  •  I wonder whether this is somehow related to weather (storms above south of Poland) or maybe some interference with the GPS signal.

I don't remember if there were any updates installed on the watch recently, the latest was 22.10 a month ago or so.

The same day I went for a walk and tracked it, and it worked like a charm, it was very accurate, perfectly tracked even when I crossed a street.

  • Good question. I would expect some error due to weather conditions but not that much margin. You've said you are using GALILEO mode, correct? I'm using GPS+GLONASS - a completely different set of satellites and different systems.

  • Another observation: The speed/pace was also completely off during the run.

First, it started way too high and in the middle of the run, it was lower than I would assume it would be. I always had the feeling of running faster than the displayed pace for the kilometer. On the other hand, the widget I'm using, dynamicsPace, showed a pace which was too fast. For example, the watch displayed >6:00 for the actual kilometer (round) while dynamicsPace, which is normally quite accurate, showed 4:15.

One can also see that starting around 35 min the tracked current pace is always below the average pace of 5:40 of this run while the pace for the kilometer is higher than the average pace. This shouldn't be possible...

  • Same problem here with 6X pro. I noticed that with glonass it finds sats faster than with galileo..

  • Yes, the pace was also off. First kilometer was somewhat ok, when I got notification of second kilometer I thought "wow, that was fast", then after about 200m I got notification of 3rd km, after that it was kind of ok, except that as I stated in the original post, the track was 5km off.

  • Same problem with my run here in west coast USA like 2 days ago, but problem corrected itself these 2 days.
