Not getting VO2 max or Performance Condition

I'm on 22.10 using Fenix 6 Pro with an HRM-TRI strap.  I recently started running again after a lower body injury. I had been able to start cycling again back in April and was getting VO2 max and Performance conditioning metrics on rides at the time.

Now that I've started running, I've done 4 short runs of about 25 minutes in the last 2 weeks. My HR is getting above 70% of my max for 10 or more continuous minutes on the runs, however VO2 max, performance conditioning, and therefore training status, are not being updated.

What's interesting is that if I log a 35–40-minute recovery walk where I stay in Z1 to Z2 the entire time, I can go into VO2 max history and see a log entry for those (which is ridiculously low.)

Is anyone else having these issues? I searched the forums but couldn't find any recent posts regarding this.

  • I have similar issues on the Fenix 6X Pro Solar - VO2 max and training status. My daughter with a Fenix 6S Pro watch stopped showing the training status after updating to version 22.10.

It all started after updating to version 22.10. In the previous version 21.00 everything was fine.

Now I'm waiting for Garmin to fix it.

  • well, i have been running 22.10 for a while now and everything was working fine until 3 days ago when i have no training status. So i think it is not really related to the update. not really sure though

  • I'm also on 22.10  Fenix 6s sapphire and just had 3.5 weeks off running due to injury.  In that time my training status turned to 'no status' although I was able to cycle almost every day.  I started running again 10 days ago and have done several now (outdoors with GPS and HR strap) My training status says 'run outside 2 times to get status'.  It's not updating.  My VO2 shows the same number I had when I was running prior to injury so that hasn't gone down.

Last year I did a recovery run 5 days after a marathon and that triggered an LT update.  It got stuck after that and measured all of my data for months based on on that recovery run meaning it thought even easy runs were super hard because it was using that slow pace/HR as a benchmark.  One day it just started working again.  Support couldn't fix it at all.  Only now I'm looking back at all the data from earlier this year and since February nothing has changed much.  I think it stopped doing updates to vo2 and LT from that point onward..

Before all these issues my vo2 and training status would adjust after most runs depending on weekly load.

  • Just wanted to update... I've also now gone and done a couple of bike rides and yesterday during the ride I saw the performance conditioning metric pop up. However, still showing no training status. I've also done 2 additional runs. VO2 max for both running  and cycling still not updating at all as well.

I just got updated to the new 22.80 beta version so I'll get in a few more activities that should give VO2 max data and update if this issue gets fixed.

  • I have just had this issue with my Fenix 6S (22.10 software, HRM_Tri strap). I had been running regularly, mostly easy runs in Z2, but with up to 2 sessions weekly. My Training Status is usually Maintaining / Productive, but recently, my VO2Max was definitely not changing even with a harder session.

After my Saturday run last weekend, where I ran a warm up mile & then a parkrun where my HR went up into Threshold, my status went from Maintaining to Recovery. I then ran a long run the next day - stayed in Recovery. Monday, rest day, Tuesday, easy 5km run & a cardio / strength session - I get No Status, Wednesday - 40 minute tempo run - No Status again. I checked everything & the Training Load data on my watch just disappeared from the previous week and showing only the two activities from Tues & Weds.

I chatted to Garmin Support. Tried to send them the contents of my Garmin and all that was suggested was that I go out and run a very hard run to test it out......

Then this morning, over a week after the issue appeared and without me actually running since Wednesday due to Covid, my Training Status has changed to Maintaining.

I am glad that I found this post in this forums to show that I was not imagining the problem!

  • Well I can say that I am getting training status now after moving over to 22.80 beta. So, don't know if it was the software version 22.10 that was doing it but might be worth a try for anyone having the same issue.

  • Seeing this issue suddenly on 22.83 beta on F6x sapphire  - acute load / exercise load  / VO2 max / performance condition not updating. but activity is showing on watch and recovery is updating.

  • Acute and exercise load is updating for me. But I won't get a VO2 max reading. F6Pro Sapphire

  • I can't see that anybody has a real resolution to this - I have a similar issue and I've raised a ticket on this forum (as it's, maybe slightly different). Last May the watch stopped showing my Perf Condition in the early stage of a run and my Vo2 Max no longer changes with my fitness; used to change every week or so. The Performance Condition is logged and shows in post-run stats but the Vo2 max is static regardless of how well I run or how fit I feel. I run with an HRM Pro and I've reset just about everything including HR zones to no avail. I don't know what changed back in May but I can't fix it.

    Any ideas...?
