No elevation information when Garmin Explore sends track to Fenix 6x

I use Gaia to create routes and export via GPX. I import the GPX as a track into Garmin Explore and the elevation information shows up - screen shot below. When I select "go" on the Garmin explore android app it sends the track to my Fenix 6x Sapphire and all elevation information is gone/missing. All other data is correct, just missing the elevation information.

  • Hi I hav ethe exact same problem, I have tried copying it as a route or a course in Explore with no luck.  Did you ever figure this one out?

    Thanks,

    Jim

  • Happy to help. In the last 2 years I have learned that GAIA can be very, very inaccurate when estimating ascent/descent based on a faulty algorithm and spotty (I'm being generous here) GPS resolution. more info: GAIA GPS POOR GPS RES

I have since moved to Caltrop to map my routes with accuracy. I export the route as a .gpx file and use Garmin Connect in instead of Garmin Explore. Once the .gpx file is imported as a route via the Garmin Connect web app, it is then synced to my Fenix. This also has the advantage of allowing me to place route points (water) on the route which will also display on my Fenix.

The end result is accurate, synced to my Fenix (with turn-by-turn directions if desired) and includes route points that will show as "distance remaining" during my hike.
