Are there 2 low power states?

I have a WF that only displays the time in low-power mode and many other things when not in low power mode.

Sometimes I do the gesture "look at the watch" (twist the arm...) and nothing happens (I can do the gesture as many times as I want, nothing happens). In fact even after I click the back or light button nothing happens, the watch is still in low power mode.

However when I "wake" it up by up/down buttons it works: it displays all the data for 10 seconds, and then it only shows the time. AND after that (at least for a while) the gesture does work.

What can cause it not to wake up? Can it be a bug in the WF? Or is it a bug (or feature?) in the watch? Maybe after the night (I have the Normal bed/wake time set) it stays in the lower-low-power mode until I wake it up with the up/down button?

From the sound of it, the Low Power mode is part of the Battery Saver settings in the Power Manager.

You can edit the settings of the Battery Saver to turn the Low Power watch face on or off, the backlight on or off, etc.

You can also turn the Battery Saver itself on or off independently from the sleep settings through the control menu (press and hold the Light button, then scroll through until you get the Battery Saver).

I observed the same with a ciq wf a long time ago. Its developer proposed me to set backlight on gesture always. It worked for my F5+, but with F6x it does not. I realized that there must have been some sleep mode, independently from Battery Save which I fully disabled after facing the so-called “BatterySaver bug”.

This “sleep mode” activates after some resting period. I dunno whether it is related to ciq or the factory fw, but finally I disabled the arm wrist/gesture function of this ciq wf. Btw it has also a function that you have to do a double-gesture in order to activate the 2nd screen. I realized that after a longer rest I have to do a triple-gesture, so it confinrmed to me that there really must have been some sleep and my first arm shake needed to wake up my F6x.

Maybe my story helps you, maybe not. ;-)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is exactly the same problem, they turn low-power => gesture => high power feature off at 00:00, I'll double check this tonight. I would have been happier if Garmin would at least do some change when the date turns from 21-31 to 01-01, that way they could've already fixed it twice...

There is an options that is not low power mode but prevent the backlight to turn on when sleeping so that it won't illuminate accidentally when you move in your sleep. Go under Settings/ System/ Backlight/ During Sleep and see how you have it set. Mine has "Gesture Off" set so gesture do not activate it while sleeping.

Mine is also set to: Gesture: off, but maybe I wasn't clear: I AM AWAKE :) and I was awake and the time was a few hours after the set sleep time ended. And of course this is like that every day. I don't want to enable gesture during sleep, that makes not much sense. It seems lie with Garmin there are a few things you need to do every morning, like type your Garmin Pay code once a day, or wake up your watch every morning...

OK, so I tried the gesture after midnight and it didn't work. But then I realized that my sleep time is set to 0:00-9:00, so this can be either because of midnight or because of the sleep time, so I changed the sleep time to 0:30, and tested again at 0:31 and the gesture worked. So it looks like indeed midnight is the problem.

Today it happened multiple times, so it doesn't only stuck in low-power more at midnight, but also after a certain time.
