Fenix 6S-workouts on endless loop

I have a Fenix 6S pro.  I preload workouts, mostly swim, from Garmin Connect. This worked fine until recently.  Now it will loop back and repeat the parts I've already done endlessly.  It will not go on to the next part of the workout.  This usually happens when there is a repeat in the workout, and after stone more step it goes back to the workout. I have factory reset the watch and this still happens

  • This is also happening to me on my fenix 6s,only on swim workouts, and also my partner has a FR 945,and it also happens to him.

This is quite frustrating because my swim workouts are a bit too complex for me to remember them and know in which lap I am plus focused on my technique.

I've seen more people complain about it on Reddit, and apparently it's a known bug, causing swimmers to avoid using swim structured workouts on garmin watches. But here on the forum I can't find anyone talking about it.

It would be good anough to understand why this sometimes happens and not other times.

For me, it seems like workouts with repeats of over 5 times have a higher chance of resulting in an infinite loop. When it bugged for me I had 10x50m intervals, or 8x50m intervals. However, I've done quite a few workouts with 10x100m intervals and nothing wrong happened.

  • I’m trying to narrow this down as I’ve seen this too. Wondering if it’s repeats with a set time? As in 10 x100s on 2 minutes instead of 10 x 100 at 1:45 pace rest 15s. I’ve only just got back to structured workouts in the pool but this week I’ve completed a couple of workouts with multiple repeats without any problems. These were not repeats at set intervals but x distance with x rest.

  • My repeats are always set distance and timed rest, so that unfortunately doesn't prevent this bug from occurring ;_;

  • So I got so frustrated I contacted Garmin and they sent me a new Fenix 6!  Guess what?  Still does it!  It does seem to be random and I agree Its more likely with higher repeats.  I've had it happen with set rest time and starting at certain intervals.  I used to have a FR 735 and this never happened.  I agree-I can't remember the workouts and I hate bringing the piece of paper with the workout.  That's one of the reasons I have this watch!

  • I think I might have something here: do you remember if it happened on workouts that had regular steps between repeats?

For example, now that I think about it, this usually happens when, not only I have the 10x100m/30" or the 8x50m/20" repeats, but I also have another repeat during the warm up, with a "relax for 100m" in between repeats

  • For me it seems to almost always be after one step after a repeat.  For example, after the 10X 100m I'll have a 200 swim, then it will cycle back to the beginning of the 10X100 repeat,  Then it stays on that repeat infinitely

  • Exactly! I had a "Relax for 100m" swim in between the two sets of intervals, and it went back to the first set of intervals after that swim in between

  • Hello:

I have 6x fenix and i have the same behaviour. Anybody have new news to solve this issue?

  • Unfortunately, no news, it just keeps getting worse and worse, now it happens on every single swim workout, even if it has only one repeat... I've started adding repeats by hand, for example, 4x50m on 20" rest, I add:

    50m - 20" rest - 50m - 20" rest - 50m...

Terrible when my workouts have repeats of 10 or 12 times...

  • Updated Sept 1st, 2022:

This issue is resolved updating to v9.33 software.
