Fenix 6 Golf app not working

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Fenix 6 and the Golf app does not seem to work!

When I want to use the watch for Golf, I have to first download the course to my iPhone and press start round on my watch. The watch finds the GPS and then says transferring data but that is as far as it has ever gone. I have tried the usual switching off, logging off and back on and even uninstalled and reinstalled and it still wont work. Can anyone help?

  • I don’t have any suggestions but to say I have the same issue. Fenix 6, v21.00.

  • I have the same issue. I've been using the golf app for years, so I know how it is supposed to work. Right now I go to download the course and it fails and exits the widget. I've deleted all of the courses from my phone app and re-downloaded. I've powered off and back on my Fenix 6. I've reset my Fenix 6 to defaults. Still have this problem. I started a forum request on this a couple days ago with no responses. Please address this Garmin!!

  • Try uninstalling and reinstalling Garmin Connect Mobile and Garmin Golf from your phone. The watch gets the course information from your phone, so it may be a corrupted download from GCM

  • I did these steps and re-installed both apps. It is still crashing when trying to load the golf courses. After uninstall and reinstall I had to re-download the course to my phone, so I don't think it has to do with the course file. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Exactly the same issues as me. I have done the above twice now with still no luck. I keep getting a transferring data message on my watch which doesn’t stop

  • I just had a look at the Golf App and it’s telling me that my device is ‘registered to my account but not paired to IOS’. I’m prompted to ‘add this device’. I’m definitely synced to Connect and it’s working ok so the Golf Message is strange.

*Edit: I checked after golf 10 June and I uploaded course ok. To fix what I described above about my device not paired, I removed my Fenix from Connect and Golf app. I then went in through the Golf app and selected ‘add device’. It took me to Connect for the pairing and after that it was showing as connected in the Golf app.*

I’m on latest IOS version (15.5)  on IPhone and latest Golf / Connect versions. My 6X is version 21.80

I’m playing tomorrow morning so hopefully working ok.

Before you try starting watch app, try opening both Garmin Golf on phone and check your course is in Golf App as well as Connect. I would also connect Fenix by cable to computer and run Garmin Webupdater and then Express - just in case. Webupdater should pick up missing elements or drivers

  • Fenix6s - since version 21.00 - I have the same issue. I can't load the golf course. When I select it, It says Downloading course and then "Failed" with a red X.
I have tried, deleting all downloaded courses and adding them back using garmin connect and removing the Golf app from my watch, and adding it back too. Rebooting Phone and Watch.

Nothing works. Does anybody know how to roll back to version 20.50. That seemed to be the most stable for long time, as I was being plagued by battery drain before that in version 19.xx I think it was.

  • Okay, I talked to a support guy today, June 14, 2022. There is a new firmware version today that shows it fixes the golf problem. Also, he said that the Connect app was updated today and that should be updated. I went through the following steps and it appears to be working even though I'm still on the version 21 firmware: Delete downloaded courses on GMC > Delete GCM >  Restart phone > Reinstall GCM > Re-pair device w/ GCM >  Soft Reset Device > Download courses via GCM again > Sync >and see if the courses download then.

I don't know how to force the update to the 22.10 software, but like I said, my phone is now working even though it is on 21.00.

  • I have by a lot of trail and errors found a way to make it work.

    1. Remove all courses from app and sync watch.
    2. Add the course you're about to play.
    3. Start round -> sometimes fails.
    4. Turn off blue tooth on mobile.
    5. Start round -> it works!

I hope this helps until the 22.10 has reached us all.

  • The key is to update the Connect app. That was updated yesterday according to the Garmin support person I chatted with. See my steps above. Mine is working now with version 21 and with all courses that I've tried and with Bluetooth on.
