Can suggested Workouts take me to purple zone in Vo2Max ?

Hi,

I'm wondering about how far suggested workout can "take me" with my vo2max improvements. I'm 38y.o. I was recovering after shoulder surgery before it I had vo2max 47 and now after few months of recovery and going back on track I got nicely back to my 46 which is good for me ( middle of the green zone). But after reaching 46 is feels like before like a bit of stagnation and workouts seem rather easy/medium and got back go "maintaining" status. My "goal/whish" is to reach the "purple" zone at least once in my life :) but blue would be great as well :) So i'm wondering if following only the suggested workouts will "take me" there or should i rather try to make my own program of use some 3rd party programs one one from Garmin training...

I love suggested workouts they are fun and adaptive to whatever I do so in ideal world i would like to continue using them. I would just like to know if they designed to keep you in "good shape" somewhere in the green zone or whether they push to constant improvement ( I'm patient so i don't mind if takes time ;P).

  • Hi, i have had some similair experience. I was 43y and after a vasectomy,  i had a goal to be better than before.  So i hired coaching. After 6 months,  vo2 estimate went from 43 to 51 for running. And 50 to 61 for cycling. I don't know if suggested workouts also take you there. But structured and consistent training, adapted for your goals and possibilities, will for sure make a huge difference. Especially if you (like me), were just running and riding along before.

So, don't buy new wheels, just search for a good, involved and realiable coach. And invest time and patience.

    Good Luck.

  • Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah coach would be definitely a best option i was training with personal coach in the past and that was a blast compared to self-training. But nowadays with kids etc. I found my morning routine where I have 45-60min to run and would like make in on my own rhythm. But that being said I will try to explore this solution my previous coach lives near to the park where i run so that can be a good idea ;)
