Feature request: Is there any way to "Forget" a phone on your watch?

Requesting a new feature to be able to "forget" a phone bluetooth connection on your watch. (The same way you can with bluetooth headsets.)

Background:

I recently had to reset my network settings on my android phone.

This means I lost all of my previously connected bluetooth devices--multiple headphones and of course my Fenix 6S.

That turned out to be a much larger headache than anticipated. I finally figured out that I had to reset my bluetooth connections on my headphones to be able to "discover" and pair them again. (Before doing this I kept trying to pair them and they would not appear on my phone.)

Unfortunately, it appears there is no way to clear the bluetooth connections on my watch without doing a factory reset. Which means I lose all my other data, custom apps, custom watch faces, etc. That's pretty annoying when the rest of the watch is functioning perfectly, I just can't get it to connect to my phone. (Side note: I did get my watch to pair with my husband's phone, so I'm pretty certain it is the fact that my watch was previously paired with my phone, and needs to reset that connection.)

If anyone knows of a way to do this already, without a factory reset, please let me know!

  • If you haven't done this try removing the device from within the Garmin Connect App on your phone. If the pairing was deleted only from the phone settings this could be what is causing the problem by creating a conflict.

  • Unfortunately already tried that. I think the issue is on the watch side.

It won't pop up with the 6-digit pairing code like it's supposed to. It just tells me to "Go to mobile app to add device." And never gives me a code.

  • Maybe Settings > Phone > Status : change it to disconnected.

If you want to connect it to another phone, then in the same menu: Pair Phone.

I never tried to pair to another phone, and i doubt it's possible, so I'm pretty sure that pairing it to the new phone will make it forget the old phone.

And if you don't want to pair to anything then keeping it disconnected should be enough

  • I thought that might work as well. No luck.

I toggled the disconnected button a bunch of times while troubleshooting.

And then I decided to try and pair it to my husband's phone in the hopes that it would forget my phone.

It paired just fine to my husband's phone. Then I went to try and pair it again to mine, still got the same issue. (I made sure to 'forget' the watch on my husband's phone after pairing.)

  • As its previously paired, I think you can just go to add device on the Garmin Connect then go to Pair on the watch and it should reconnect without asking for a code IIRC

  • All that happens is the watch gets stuck on "Go to mobile app to add device" and GC gets stuck waiting on the watch.

Again, I need to clear something on the watch. And it doesn't look like there is any way to do that other than a complete factory reset, which is incredibly annoying.

  • On the rare occasion I’ve encountered this (iPhone X) I’ve done the following:

    Remove from Garmin Connect.

    Forget from Bluetooth

    Reboot the iPhone

Hard reset the watch - long press top left until power off.

    Restart the phone

    Restart the watch

Follow the process to pair the watch from Garmin Connect Mobile.

  • I'll also add that if you are unable to resolve it, before doing a factory reset it's probably worth giving Garmin Support a call. They are usually pretty helpful and may have troubleshooting steps and a solution we haven't thought of here.

  • Yeah I contacted Garmin support before posting this topic. Their solution was the factory reset.

  • I am sorry there is an issue. If you have already done everything  recommended and there is not a successful Bluetooth pairing, there is a bigger issue with your watch. I agree with the advice of Product Support. I recommend you master reset your watch too. It is a last resort but I have seen it needed when there is a Bluetooth pairing issue with a smartphone.
