Fenix 6 Series - 20.87 Public Beta

Hello Fenix 6 customers,

Our next beta version for the Fenix 6 series is now available!

Please email the Garmin Outdoor Quality Team if you find issues in software after installing this update: [email protected]

If you’ve participated in the Fenix 6 Beta Program previously, you’ll notice a few changes from how we have managed this in the past. And further down the line, we’ll have some additional improvements to the Beta Program (more on that later!) Notably, this forum post is now the primary resource for reading the change log notes – they are not available on another webpage. (There will be more options for viewing change logs after we implement the additional improvements to our beta program.)

The links to download the software update are listed below. Select the link specific to your watch model. Please note that your computer will download a .zip file when you open this link. This zip contains the software update, as well as a folder with the file necessary for backdating software, and instructions for this process if you choose to do so. Remember, backdating software will reset all settings.

Use these links to download the zip for your watch to update to version 20.87:

  • It's weird! My watch thought I was sleeping when I wrote about Performance Condition a few hours ago in this thread.

The pattern is always the same - 'sleep' with zero REM starting soon after activity, replacing the overnight genuine sleep (which tracks well)

  • YES, I add to your suggestion of body battery, the training status. Actually there are ONLY ONE face that show the training status and it is what I use. I like to see if I'm productive or improductive  this stimulates to do things correctly. It will be good if the training status convert to a data field too.

  • Yeah unsure there will be addition or modifications to the stock faces of our old watch... However these data are now available with IQ system5 to be pulled by third party watch faces, at least to my understanding, so possibly they will come in time at least on those

  • The intervals feature has been broken since 20.60.  i.e. it works on the watch, but Garmin Connect doesn't divide up a workout between Run/Recover intervals in either the app or web site.  I've got track day scheduled for tomorrow- will let you know.  (yes, I've reported this twice to the beta team)

it still doesn't work.  reported to Outdoor.beta

  • I experienced the same training effect bug. Post workout screen displayed my previous workout TE. Then when checking it afterwards on the watch and on GCM, it's correct. Another odd thing, maybe unrelated to this beta .. is my workouts don't show anymore on GCM, it says "data for this activity could not be loaded. It may have been deleted."

  • Hello. I have a big decrease during activity with the 20.85. More than 40 puls under the.real. i wrote a ticket to garmin.

  • Just performed an indoor cycling activity.

On the no training effect label shown while on GCM it has been labeled as Threshold.

Previous activity had a training effect, so no “previous activity label” in my case.

  • What was the training effect label on your watch right after finishing the workout? Sorry but your post is a bit confusing to me

  • Sorry but your post is a bit confusing to me

Unfortunately the standard of bug reporting can be very poor and lacks evidence - this is not a criticism as people are not paid to do this and it's voluntary. And some people are not native English speakers, which can make it difficult for them to get points across clearly. But it's not going to help Garmin fix issues.

I think to help Garmin fix this an idea might be to

    1) Define a HotKey to take a screenshot on the watch

    2) After the activity take screenshots of Training Effect screens, Aerobic value screens. This gives a timestamp which is also useful due to the embedded file creation time / date.

    3) Take screenshots of Garmin Connect showing the variation between the original report on the watch. Screenshot are also timestamped, so you can also demonstrate any post sync correction on watch with another screenshot if needed

Post them here and sent to the beta team. Provide evidence of the discrepancy.

Just to be constructive and to help those with the issue.

Providing good evidence helps Garmin to help you.

  • I wrote that post on the phone and just realised the text got messed up.

On the watch it had no label whatsoever. In the past with other recent releases it had labels with wrong effect names.
