Slow first response after pushing button

Ever since the last couple of updates (I believe around 2 updates ago), my Fenix 6s Pro has a delay of 2-3 seconds after pressing a button, when the watchface (default one) is shown.
It's only the response after the first button press. The watch is on my wrist, showing the watch face, and I press a button. The watch then doesn't respond for 2-3 seconds, after which the correct action and screen are shown and the watch behaves as fast as before the update.

Does anyone else have the same issue and hopefully a solution that doesn't involve a complete reset? The issue is still present with the current FW (20.60).

  • My Garmin Fenix 6X Sapphire just updated to Software Version 26.00 (c7a16d5) today (6/20/2023) and has the same sluggish response to action key presses … 5-10 second delays. This also happened for the last update a month+ ago, and I was frustrated enough to choose to Reset (System>Reset), which seemed to speed response time up but I also had to Re-customize a lot of settings. I should not have to do that every time Garmin pushes a firmware update to my watch! #PITA #bebetterGarmin

  • Seeing the same issue on Fenix 6X Pro Solar, Software Version 26.00 (c7a16d5). Just switched from Fenix 5 Plus Sapphire - never seen this issue with them for years.

  • I suffered from the slow button response after upgrading to v25.10 a while ago and just put up with it. Upgrading to v26.00 recently fixed it for me.

  • I have v26.00 already - didn't help me at all, same 5-10 seconds delays.

  • From what I can gather there doesn’t seem to be any specific version that causes it. I had been hearing of other people complaining about it on versions earlier than v25.10 that didn’t effect me at all, then when I updated to v25.10, boom, had the issue, which then resolved itself going to v26.00. It’s almost like it’s the update itself that causes it rather than any version. For me, the delay was more like 2 or 3 seconds, nothing like 5-10.

I’ve had my 6x Pro since Dec 2020 and have been through every update since then (starting at v10 or v12, can’t remember) without any issue. It seems to be pretty random for people.

  • I would suggest not just a factory reset, but even delete the device from yout conncet.garmin account (both on mobile app, online and express) cause it sometimes happen that corrupted files causing the problem actually come back after the 1st sync post reset. SO you need to delete the decice and add it back as a new device. This will prevent andy contamination with corrupted backed up files

I know it's a burden, but I can guarantee it works and you just have to do it once.

  • How sure you are in this, 'cause although Garmin are often recommending these kind of time wasting things, they are also always clear in that it might or might not help, and for me they usually don't help...

  • Cause it worked for me on several software specific problems on different Fenix models. I guess it's not a matter of fw release bug o compatibility, but that te firmware upgrade procedure write and delete on the local storage seldom corrupts files, I can't tell you witch files, but files that happen to be backed up, so if you don't re-add the device as a new one.....you'll end up having the very same issue just after the 1st sync with your garmin account/profile. The only software related issue this procedure won't solve are related to maps corruptions....in there cases you have to delete the maps, then contact the support to have them re-added to your profile (they simulate you bought them a second time). Trust me I had tons of issue with Garmin Fenix watches since my 1st Fenix 3HR.

I had 3 watched replaced because of power connector ossidated, etc

than again it may happen a specific FW is bugged, but if it were the scenario everyone on the same fw would share the issue.

It's just these watches are really delicate about memory rewrite
