Atrial fibrillation detection

I wonder whether our Fenix will be able to detect afib via software updates or it is matter of hardware.

All the simple smartwatchs I owned could do it by the HR sensor, so wearing it 24h as I do with my Fenix would have detected it.

I'm a sporty person (like all of you!) and I would find that feature being of great comfort indeed.

Any clue?

  • I have a Garmin Fenix 6 and I suffer from arterial fibrillation. The watch is unable to detect when I am in afib, it reads a heart rate of 70 to 80 BPM, instead of the 150 plus bpm my heart is actually going at. This is due to the weakness of the pulse in my wrists when I am in afib. In fairness it is not just the watch, I have nearly been turned away from the emergency room when going in for a cardioversion and they manually check the pulse rate from my wrist and only upon my insistence they have checked with a echocardiogram and found I am indeed over 150 BPM. My cardiologist informs me it is common for people in certain forms of afib to have a very weak and misleading detectable pulse rate in their wrists or ankles.

  • Hello

Garmin has introduced the Fenix 7 Pro and Epix 2 Pro series. These are capable of the ECG function (currently only for US customers). This is not only a software, but also a physical sensor change. So unfortunately this will not be available on the Fenix 6 series.
