Stress data field in Activity.

Hi.

I want create my own activity, where i can check actual stress level. I know that data fields are not available for every activity. Which activities supports stress data field ?

Has Garmin created a list of supported data fields with activity?

Thank you

  • I'd like to know this too..

The only activities that I was able to find that show stress are Yoga and Breathing.

  • Generally not all that meaningful during an activity.

For example, when I record a ride on my Edge and just passively wear my F6, the "stress" levels go to 100, even as I am just warming up.

If it's stuck at 100 during a workout, I can't see how this is useful, meaningful or actionable information.

Although I can see it being useful in the less intense Yoga or reathwork activities that mentions.

  • The purpose (at leas in my case) is track activities related to stress management.  For example, meditation, various types of breathing exercises, heat exposure, cold exposure.  All of these have interesting and often profound impact on stress, both in real-time and afterwards.  It would be great to have an activity that works well for them.

I was sort-of able to make this work by making several copies of the "Yoga" exercise.  But this is less than ideal as they all show up as "Yoga" (and not the renamed activity) when the finished activity is synched to GC.

Hoping someone else has a better solution.

  • I think what you are trying to do is fundamentally flawed. Getting useful data from HRV (stress in this instance) relies on repeatability and generally being in the same position and being still and calm.

This is why HRV apps require you to perform the tests motionless, either sitting, lying down or standing, and even do it at a similar time each day.

Trying to derive 'stress' for example running, biking, hiking etc makes no sense as repeatabilty is a key factor is getting useful feedback from HRV related metrics.

  • The current implementation of the stress metric (in Fenix 7) works well enough for the built-in Yoga and Breathing activities.  I'm simply looking to build on what's already there.

I realize that HRV typically requires repeatability but that's not always the case.  Many athletes capture and utilize HRV during workouts (e.g. using Elite HRV).  It's a different scenario than what you're describing.  It sounds like you're referring to "Health Snapshot" type of measurement which is not what we're talking about.

  • Yes would like to know this too. Trying to create a hot tub activity, Want to track stress, temp, heart rate and time. Want Stress level, HR and temp to show up in the fit field and Garmin connect so I can review.

Only yoga and breathing seem to track stress, near as i can tell. Copying yoga makes me go though "poses", which I can't seem to turn off. Yoga based events get named "yoga" not the "hot tub" i changed it too in gc and the temperature field does not get recorded into the fit file,

Would also be nice to get a record of body battery in the fit file too.

Maybe I should be less type-A in my spa-ing?

  • Has there been any solution found for this?

  • Great post! I am also interested in this! Activities for lowering stress does typically not include motion. I also use Yoga for those today. Examples are different types of meditations, breathwork, relaxation techniques, hot/cold bath. I ensure you this is a real need for people, and it is really useful to be able to record stress in an activity. It is als quite important for people that use the Garmin watches for managing stress. This seems to me to be a significant and growing customer segment, at least from what I can see from the great interest in user forums. They buy their watches for life style improvements, not for physical training.

  • It's not stress, but my similar: Body Battery datafield: apps.garmin.com/.../7a946b75-69d8-4594-8efe-b68d6ef84cb0 You can add it to any activity in any device that supports body battery.

  • yes, we are already using it, and I love it! I use it on a Forerunner 265 and it works like a breeze. Thanks. While I have you here, though: Another user tried to do the same on his FR 255, but reported that: "similar to what I tried, but mine had just a Connect IQ placeholder in the BB field unless I would go to the single data field layout. Forerunner 255." . In case you want to know ;)
