Fenix 6 Series - 20.82 Public Beta

Hello Fenix 6 customers,

Our next beta version for the Fenix 6 series is now available!

Please email the Garmin Outdoor Quality Team if you find issues in software after installing this update: [email protected]

If you’ve participated in the Fenix 6 Beta Program previously, you’ll notice a few changes from how we have managed this in the past. And further down the line, we’ll have some additional improvements to the Beta Program (more on that later!) Notably, this forum post is now the primary resource for reading the change log notes – they are not available on another webpage. (There will be more options for viewing change logs after we implement the additional improvements to our beta program.)

The links to download the software update are listed below. Select the link specific to your watch model. Please note that your computer will download a .zip file when you open this link. This zip contains the software update, as well as a folder with the file necessary for backdating software, and instructions for this process if you choose to do so. Remember, backdating software will reset all settings.

Use these links to download the zip for your watch to update to version 20.82:

  • Have you got the most recent version of the widget?

May not be relevant to your issue but the widget was updated to version 1.2.4 on 2022-03-28.

  • Pity that the Device Usage widget is not included.

  • Downloaded and installed without issue, thank you.

As a bimodal sleeper, I'll be particularly interested to review sleep tracking changes to see if it can reliably spot awake time of a couple of hours between sleeps. I suspect that I'll still have to rely on body battery to identify daytime naps. Fingers crossed that it doesn't mess with my 'change activity' logging.

A note to devs: Although my Fenix 6X Pro tracks conventional cross training activities related to my athletics sprint training very well, I often use an IQ dance app to track 3-4 hour dance events. There doesn't appear to be any acknowledgement of a 600-800 calorie activity deficit and the impact / recovery that that might have.

  • 26l ... I'd never be able to leave the house!

  • Was looking forward to a fix for the min and max indications on the barometer widget (missing when difference > 10 Mbar), but I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer for that.

  • Added the Resting Heartrate True-Up feature. RHR data now gets trued-up so that all devices tied to the same account will have the same RHR value.

Resting HR is bouncing up and down - I have no other devices sycning that record HR for 'true up' to apply

Started at 46 today (from previous firmware)

    https://ibb.co/DWT1dYV

    Then moved up to 47

    https://ibb.co/1ffqnKd

    Then DOWN again to 46

    https://ibb.co/ydStLZ7

    Then UP again to 47

    https://ibb.co/cXXNTR5

You can see the changes timestamped top right from my phone clock

  • Weird, my Resting HR hasn't moved since the morning (synced several times) and still shows 45

  • Would actually be very nice to have also a "body battery" (and maybe connected stress history) true up.... would really make it possible to use multiple devices for sports, casual wearing and sleep tracking. possibly bit challenging who is the device that "wins" Smiley but probably workable

  • Something's surely fishy here (and it's ok, it's a beta) but just rechecked out of curiosity... Without doing anything colors are there now on my Fenix 6 base, but not yet on my Fenix 6x pro solar...

Oh well, they will come, looks like a cool thing to show off about Smiley

  • you will be able, but only after Garmin releases the new devices to the SDK so developers will be able to compile their app to Fenix6 with CIQ 3.3.1, Until then you'll only be able to do sideload if you compile an app for yourself. The same delay was with FR245 a few weeks ago.
