Battery not lasting long enough?

Hi guys, all I read online is that the Fenix 6 pro lasts 20 days on smartwatch mode. I have all health sensors turned on (heart rate, sleeping, stress level etc.) and bluetooth and Wi Fi turned off. Did not had any sports activity (GPS or similiar tracking) cause I am injured and having the watch for only 7 days. Backlight is set to 40% and gesture turned on after sun down. I have watch face without seconds. My battery drains for more than 25% per day. What am i doing wrong or what I can check to see if it drains battery so fast?

  • Battery drain can have many reasons.

Do you have a 6s, 6 or 6x? 21 days in SmartWatch mode applies to the 6x.

Do you have PulseOx turned on?

Are you using a stock or 3rd party watchface?

    • I have the regular 6 pro version, 3rd party watch face and PulseOx turned on. But 25% per day is really a lot.
  • I agree 25% is a lot.  But PulseOx and 3rd party watchfaces are both known to drain battery. I suggest you try without these and check the drain again.

  • I bought a Fenix 6 (regular, non-S, non-X, non pro) a month ago. Until now I used the same (3rd party) watch face and settings (24/7 HR, PulseOx) as I had on the FR245, and I still have the firmware version it came with (19.30) because I see how people struggle with battery life after upgrade. I was expecting to see significantly more days of battery, but unfortunately I get only around 5 days (I do a 1 hour run 3 times a week)

    Were my expectations too high?

I changed now to one of the built-in Garmin watch faces (strangely enough they all have always on seconds) and turned off PulseOx completely. I have 2 questions:

What battery life should I expect to see now? Am I right that it should be somewhere in the 10-12 days range, or am I reading the official "promise" too optimistically?

I couldn't find much information about what is the advantage of having PulseOx enabled 24/7 or at least during sleep hours. Is it taken i to account when some other things like body battery, how much i need to rest before my next excersise? What should I do with the PulseOx readings?

  • As far as I know PulseOx does not contribute to the other fitness metrics.

On the stock watchfaces, the second hand turns off after some time when the watch is not moved. The only ones that do not show seconds are the digital ones. But even with the seconds displayed, a built in watchface should consume less power compared to a 3rd party one.

I think 10-12 days is realistic in your case. But of course depends on other factors, like how often you use the backlight and how many notifications you receive on the watch.

  • Unless you're going mountaineering, or high altitude work - you're rally losing nothing by switching Pulse Ox completely off, and you gain a lot of battery. I also only have by backlight on the minimum percentage and that works great for me

What should I do with the PulseOx readings?
  • No, I have one of the stock Fenix 6 faces, I could customize it more or less, but no matter what I do there is a second "hand" 24/7. This is strange, actually in all of the third party faces I ever used it was "on demand".

  • Second hand turns off after some time. It is difficult to see because it returns back on on every slight movement. You will see it when you put the watch on a table. So it's there not all the time, but Tadaprobably most of the time. Anyway, any stock watchfaces should consume less power than any 3rd party one. Tada

PS: anybody else having issues with random emojis appearing when replying from a phone?

  • I can confirm the same issue - Fenix 6 Pro, bought one month ago - initially the battery lasted more than one week, now only 2-3 days, even if PulseOx and WiFi are off, and GPS is not used, firmware 20.50 (973feb2).

The watch reports 14 days left after a full charge, but the battery drains in less than 3 days, without doing/starting any activity/app.

At the request of Garmin support team I installed the new beta firmware with debug logging enabled, and hopefully they fill find the cause..

  • If you manage to disable always-on second hand on this watch face then let me know: www.youtube.com/watch
