Garmin built-in app - "Resort skiing" - difference between "Total runs" and "Laps"

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday I noticed that on two different watch screens I have these fields, "Total runs" and "Laps"

I wonder what the difference is between them. For yesterday's activity "Total runs" showed "8" while "Laps" showed "7" and in reality I did 8 runs, so "Total runs" was correct.

Also, I wanted to add the "Total runs" field to the other watch face, to replace "Laps" and I couldn't find it in any of the data fields:

  • Timer
  • Distance
  • Pace
  • Speed
  • Heart rate
  • Temperature
  • Elevation
  • Compass
  • Navigation
  • Muscle Oxygen
  • Other
  • Graphical

  • Total runs are only available in skiing and snowboarding. It automatically detects when you descend. So the number of runs is equal to the number of descends.

A lap on the other hand is, well, a lap Slight smile. Like a lap on a round course. You can manually switch to the next lap or you can tell the watch that one lap is e.g. 5km and it will count them automatically based on your covered distance.

  • OK, that would explain the difference between runs and laps but I wonder how come the "Total runs" is not available when I create a new custom watch face.

Maybe I should duplicate the "Resort ski" activity and try to make it look exactly the way I want it to...

Thank you Matthias for your answer.
