Downloading software to install maps on my garmin fenix 6x (second hand) after I have done a hard re-set to remove the previous owner's data from the watch. Now there are no maps and I cannot use the navigate function as I only see lines and no maps. I also do not have the box if there might be any codes involved. Garmin told me they discontinued the use of MapSource. on Garmin products

Google TalkyToaster. WAY cheaper and WAY better than the Garmin maps mate.

Can't you connect to Garmin Express via the computer and reinstall the maps from there?

I downloaded Garmin Express, signed in plugged in watch, it synced, I clicked on download all updates, now it is stuck on syncing again and does not go to install. What am I doing wrong?

You don't need G.E. to install maps. Just go into the watch through file explorer on your PC and drop the map file in the appropriate folder.

I take it that 'Map Details' option isn't there for you?

You can do as suggested above and use 3rd party maps for free. Personally I'd want to know what the issue is though first. Try installing the latest software, then doing a factory reset, then reinstalling Garmin Express (this worked for another user on an old thread...)

I did see the map options as I saw my watch was not properly connected. I chose the region to install (only one region) and then it got to the first step, I think preparing to install and then it got stuck there. I tried to re-launch GE but it would not. there is a small GE icon at the bottom now that says updating for the past 4 hours!!!! Not sure if i can disconnect my watch now and try and re-launch GE? The does not show anything about uploading, only says 100% charged and the time and does not go to any menu buttons while still plugged in. This has been going on for the last 4 hours. I cannot re-launch GE from anywhere while it is on updating!!! Very frustrating. Any advice please?

Yeah I'd disconnect, uninstall GE from the computer, factory reset watch (Hold Menu>System>Reset>Delete Data & Reset Settings), then reinstall GE and start again

Bear in mind it will be downloading gb's of maps so be prepared to leave the watch connected for a fair while (dependent on your internet speed) once it starts downloading/ installing

^^^ this. It can take a long time to download the maps, and sometimes GE isn't very good at telling you what it's doing (i.e. it looks like it is doing nothing).

If on my Garmin Fenix 6x Pro, I press navigate> points of interest> and then any other option (food and drink etc) it just searches for a while and then says Near Me, except finds Cities near me but none of the other seems to work! What am I doing wrong!
