xc ski power losing power when doing v1 skate technique

Does anyone else use xc ski power and notice that the watch stops recording power when going to v1 technique? It works just fine v2 and v2-alternate. See the graph below of climbing a hill where i switched a few times between v2 and v1. The v1 parts are not recorded. My watch is on my left wrist and my tall pole/leading pole is with my right. I have not messed around much to see if that matters or not.

  • I use ski power too, and have experienced drop-outs also, but not only during v.1 technique. Watch on left, leading pole on right. I have failed to figure out a pattern/reason for the drop-outs, as most of the sessions seems ok. I do both classic and skate skiing.

  • Thanks for your input n.y.and. I just went out and did a 10 min skate and 5 min classic test to see if i could see a pattern of data drop with v1 and v2 technique. I got a short drop out on v1 technique when looking at 3 sec avg power. Otherwise the power seemed to be reported well during v2 and gliding (zero power). On classic i got power for double poling and diagonal, so that seemed relabile. Of course, this was a short effort so not much data collected.

I am thinking the ski power data is probably most useful for post-workout analysis. I also think that looking at it smoothed post workout or on the watch (10 sec power) (like trainingpeaks does) makes more sense as well. I dont think it will be as useful as biking power since 1) its hard to see your watch while skiing 2) the data is a bit unreliable now in consistency. I think looking at 10 sec power on the watch probably makes the most sense so at least if you glance at it while skiing you can get a bit of an idea.

Below is my skate ski data with smoothed power. It fairly matches my heart rate data, which is what you expect, so the overall trend is good. You can also see a few turn arounds and stops where the power data drops.
