duplicate activity if I press "download HR" from HRM Pro

Hello

does anyone know why I have two activities when I press "download HR" after finishing an activity? here are steps:

1- I connect my HRM Pro to my watch

2- I start my activity

3- after I finish, I scroll through the summary on my watch and click download HR

Thanks

  • Generally speaking you shouldn't have to "Download HR", it should happen automatically when you save the activity.

Downloading HR is only required when you have saved the activity while the HRM and watch are not in range of each other (which would be an unusual situation). If you are scrolling through the summary on your watch you are almost by definition within range.

  • It works as designed ... https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=CV5P1hJwbi9WD96ERVPDW8

When heart rate data is manually downloaded, a second activity file is created with the stored heart rate. You may have to manually upload this second file to Garmin Connect. This will result in having two of the same activities: one without the stored heart rate and one with the heart rate. The activity that does not display heart rate data can be deleted.

  • It’s not entirelly true.
I have similar situation with my F6X Sapphire and HRM-Pro.
When I do my run with belt connected to my watch it gets heart rate from the belt, after trening end, my workout synchronizes with Garmin platform though app in my phone, so far it is like it should, but than when I force heart reate download from the belt, my training in the watch gets updated (e.g. training efect changes, aerobic goes down and anaerobic start to show somw value), and then my watch synchronizes with app and I see second training, but only on app and web platform, on the watch I have only one workout with updated data.
In the app trainings looks almast identical, time, pace, heart rate, are the same but as I wrote earlier I see some changes in training effects results.
    And which is correct.
To be sure that first training gets data from the belt not from buil in sensor I even tryied couple times do the workout with buil in sensor disabled.

And last thing, when I do training and do not synchronize it with app just after the training, force heart rate download, and do synchronisation after that, I get only one workout in the app with corrected data even if I saw that data in first training were different that data after synchronisation.

  • Hello Adam, did you solve this? Am also experiencing exactly same, 2 years after. Thank you…

  • See what McAlister says - you dont need to do it - ONLY if youre doing an activity when not wearing the watch (using data caching). If you're just running with the HRM Pro, it does it automatically

  • If you do not need to download the HR then why are the values so different? I end my activity with my watch on my arm and my HRM Pro Plus on my chest and I checked that there are connected. When I then view the activity later on, I have the option to download HR and the values are alway quite different and I get a duplicate activity added to Garmin connect.

  • After 2 years of observing this problem I have come to the conclusion that downloading HR gives you better values for training effect. Sometimes when I do highly anaerobic training with high amount of time in top HR% the watch showed almost no anaerobic effect after the training - after downloading HR from the HRM Pro or Pro+ (tried it for both and it has the same effect on both) the anaerobic effect is way more realistic.

  • I am having same issue.  Downloading the HRM gives different stats compared to not downloading, but doing the download creates a duplicate activity.  How do you deal with this, always go to Connect and delete the first of the two duplicate activities?

  • This is obviously a defect in Garmin Connect. I can't understand why Garmin hasn't fixed it after so many years. If you update an activity on the watch then obviously it should just update the same activity in Garmin Connect instead of creating a duplicate activity.

In theory as long as the HRM is connected during the activity then it shouldn't be necessary to use the "Download HR" feature after saving the activity but in practice this results in a different Training Effect. What I do is temporarily disable Bluetooth on my phone before using that feature so that it won't sync the activity before the HR download completes.

Unfortunately there is a related defect in that downloading the HR causes a corrupted FIT file about 10% of the time, and then it won't sync to Garmin Connect at all. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem consistently and when I opened a Garmin support case they weren't interested in investigating the root cause.

  • I have the complete opposite, when I download the HR the file is corrupted and I'm unable to sync the activity to my account.
