Fenix 6 Pro updated Wi-Fi firmware v4.01 - possibly a fix for longstanding music sync issues

I was lucky enough to acquire a Fenix 6S Sapphire mid last year and have found it to be pretty impressive. The watch software updates have generally been good.

However the Deezer music app has been awful. Basically it just doesn't work - the sync always fails within a minute. Lots of Connect IQ reviews say the same. Watch resets, downloads, many of us have tried supposed fixes but all in vain. And back in early December I opened a ticket with Deezer and demonstrated the problem but have since heard nothing. Whilst I certainly didn't buy the watch exclusively for listening to music I did want to use the feature for some shorter activities. Meanwhile another family member has a Forerunner 245M and is also experiencing the same issue.

Of some note is that there have not been any Deezer app updates since early December - it is really looking like Deezer are having difficulties or possibly may have abandoned the app. Deezer released app v2.1.7 on 18th April.

Garmin may be reluctant to make a public statement in this forum - but really should strongly consider changing some product capability statements.

Meanwhile it would be good to know how many others have issues with the Deezer app.

Edit: see latest comments further down thread.

  • Fenix 6S pro here and using Deezer without problems, syncs every time I connect the watch to charger. I guess you did it already, anyway did you try to remove and reinstall the app? The problem I had in the past was related to the Deezer account linked to Google, no way to make it work, impossible to validate and connect the device, I changed with my other old Deezer account that is using email/pw i/o Google and it works fine, not sure you are in the same case.

  • Hi,

I undertsand you complain, the developper is Deezer, but yes Garmin use this service to promote is own produtcs ...

    https://support.deezer.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360001242309-Garmin

    Content limits

    • 100-250 songs
    • Playlists with more than 150 songs may result in problems syncing

You can contact the developper here (i did it this morning, limitation to 40 songs for me):

I have push a question on the Deezer Support Forum .... and open a ticket to Deezer Support ;-)

    Bye

  • Hi, sorry it seems that actually i do not correctly read the post.

So i also open a ticket, Deezer support is awful, i'm trying to have a good exchange with someone competent but always waiting.

I will do more tests at my side because my playlists are very huge and i will create multiple one with less songs and i will try to only synchronize one playlist at a time during my test (even if i have enough space on the watch) :

    - 45 songs (because i'm locked at 40 for the moment)

    - 100

    - 150 (Deezer : "Playlists with more than 150 songs may result in problems syncing")

    - 200 (Deezer : "100-250 songs")

    - 250 (Dezzer : "100-250 songs")

I will come back here ASAP

  • Quick feedback, at my side regarding the 40 songs limit. for the moment this only concern the Love tracks default playslist.

I made a "copy" of this playlist (1422 songs) in another one and i could synchronized 150 songs without issue ... at work using my iphone bad wifi in the building.

  • As part of the latest Fenix 6 firmware v21.00 release, Garmin has also released an update to Wi-Fi firmware v4.01 (for Pro/Sapphire versions). In my case the Wi-Fi firmware appeared a day later after I had upgraded my Fenix to v21.

After applying the Fenix 6 Wi-Fi v4.01 update and restarting ... on a whim I retested the Deezer music app sync and for the first time ever it synced correctly the first time.

For the network techs - for my Wi-Fi I'm currently using a pair of Netgear Orbi Pro Mini APs (with Ethernet backhaul) connecting to a pfSense router. Previously I was using some ancient Apple Airport Extreme APs. However prior to the Fenix Wi-Fi firmware update sync had been so unreliable I'd virtually given up using the feature.

For those of you using ancient Wi-FI APs - note that the old (and insecure) WEP protocol is no longer supported - so you'll need to upgrade your Wi-Fi AP to something that supports WPA2. It's possible with some routers that a firmware upgrade and rechecking Wi-Fi configuration may allow use of WPA2.

    Tested Fenix 6 combinations

Fenix 6 firmware prior to v21.00, Wi-Fi firmware v2.60, Deezer app v2.1.6 or earlier - music sync failure
Fenix 6 firmware v21.00, Wi-Fi firmware v2.60, Deezer app v2.1.7- music sync failure
Fenix 6 firmware v21.00, Wi-Fi firmware v4.01, Deezer app v2.1.7- music sync success

TL;DR if you've had problems with music sync - upgrade your watch to v21.00. When you also receive the Wi-Fi firmware update v4.01 - try a music sync (Deezer / Spotify etc) and see if it now works.

  • Here it was just the opposite, this new version of Wi-Fi that came along with firmware 21.00 simply made my Fênix 6X Zafire completely lose the possibility of using it as WI-FI, I've tried everything, even the total reset, result , I lost the songs that I had on my cell phone (Spotify) and my watch is unable to listen to music, today I updated to version 21.80 but the problem continued, even with an update in the Wi-Fi version, now it is at 655.35.

  • 655.35 means your WIFI is broken

    You cannot fix this yourself.

  • You mean this is a hardware problem? Until yesterday, when the clock was at version 21.00, the Wi-Fi was at version 4.01 and the problem was identical.

  • Unfortunately once you see 655.35 it means the WIFI hardware no longer works.

Only your local Garmin office can assist unfortunately.

  • Yep - contact Garmin support this is a hardware failure
