Double counting intensity NOT Move IQ

Hello,

since my last software update on my Fenix 6 solar my intensity minutes, heart rate and calorie count have all duplicated. I thought it was connected to Move IQ, but having switched it off it seems to not make a difference.

This is quite annoying as a gym session is now burning 400-600cals, dog walking burns 1000 cals-way OTT!

Is there a way I can reset it (I'm patched up to date as are all apps) so that my entire ecosystem is relatively accurate again? I am using the HR for my GP and duplicating the intensity seems to be screwing up the stats..

For some reason the sleep patterns and body battery have also thrown a wobbler at the same time - seems unlikely theyre connected but if (as I suspect) its a software/coding screw up it is possible.

TIA

Col

  • Have you tried hard resetting. Turning back to factory settings?

  • I am having the same problem and wondering how to fix this ?

  • Thanks for your reply - no I haven't as its painful to resurrect the customisations to the data fields etc

TBH shouldn't really need to - we dont with Windows/iOS etc and its the same thing - sadly as is normal these days supplier support is far from great even though they have dropped the ball with an  OS update Disappointed

  • Yeah but we have better understanding of how this OS's work as there are much much more people using these OS's than peoples using Garmin watches. Maybe some file or command stalled somewhere cousing double addition of some data. Or it's maybe a communication issue where it retransmits the same file and all the data is added again.

So easiest user side method to try is hard resetting. Yeah customising again takes time but if it solves the problem, you'll feel like setting up a new watch. :)

  • You may have more idea, but my days of coding are long gone -now I deal with IT security,  comms and infrastructure so I'm not exactly a novice at troubleshooting - doesn't mean my opinions are right but... Slight smile

If some code has stalled then a reboot of the phone will solve as it will clear the block/RAM - it didn't change anything, therefore it is most likely an OS/code issue.

Yep a reinstall COULD solve it short term, but without knowing the cause its likely to return and likewise if it is an OS/coding issue it will return fairly quickly. In all probability it will not solve the problem...

That aside when looking across the forum this isn't an isolated comms/double counting issue, many have the same type of issue - this means that it appears to be totally a Garmin issue with a bug they introduced during the last update.

Garmin need to sort this out ASAP, but thanks very much for your help ;-)

  • There is a setting, accessed via Connect, where you can set how Intensity is calculated. I’ve copied this from a Garmin support article. There is an option for Auto or you can choose HR zones.

Enduro Series, fenix 6 Series, MARQ Collection, quatix 6, tactix Delta Series

      1. Open the Garmin Connect app on a paired smartphone.

      2. Open the menu.
        • Android: Select  (top left)
        • iOS: Select More (bottom right)

      3. Select Garmin Devices.

      4. Select your device.

      5. Select Activity Tracking.

      6. Select Weekly Intensity Minutes.

      7. Select Heart Rate Zones.

      8. Select Moderate Intensity and select a zone.

      9. Select Vigorous Intensity and select a zone.

  • Thanks Ryanspa, tried that and despite now having the zones for a 30yr old (I'm 60) its only made a minor difference.

Sadly I've also noticed the battery is drained in half the time too!

  • Hellooo,

well I bit the bullet and did a hard reset - made almost ZERO difference. The rate of battery decay has eased, but intensity is ridiculous and my calorie count is twice what I know I've burned.

So as per my initial response - Garmin's QA/testing is non-existent and they aren't doing their job!
