Fenix 6 and Golf

I've just bought a fenix 6 and wondered if I could stop using my Approach G3 now as I can get the course layout on my watch.

I've always used my Garmin watch (previously VA3) as an activity tracker when playing, recording it as a walk to get steps, calories, intensity minutes etc.

If I start a golf activity on my fenix will it also come up as a timed activity in connect, or does it only register the scorecard? I'd appreciate a screenshot of what it looks like on connect,

Yep, it tracks the activity and if you turn it on tracks your score. I find the scoring hit and miss though and I spend too much time fiddling with my watch during my round. I've turned off scoring and just use the tracking of activity and front/middle/back yardages.

Perfect, thanks. So if I switch off the scoring it'll track as a walk in connect? I tried the scoring years ago and that's why I never used it - the putting was awful.

Yes you can turn off scoring and it will track as an activity in connect (you will get the steps and an activity).

On the app on my phone it shows the activity, along with steps, stress, body battery and heart rate. The activity does not show a specific step count during the activity.

The watch shows a variation of all this information but from what I can see does not store the scorecard.

Agree with the above comments that sometimes the scoring is a bit hit and miss.

Thanks all. Finally, I can't see a 'start activity' feature, is it as simple as selecting the course an the tees and it starts tracking?

Yes, activity tracks in the background and will load to Garmin connect after your round. I switched from the S60 watch, only difference is no touchscreen. If you want better shot detection try the CT10 sensors. I added those to my wedges and putter and saw improvements. Still issues but better.

Curious. What do you find hit and miss about scoring?

My experience has been that when I'm on the green, the scorecard appears on the watch, and it takes one second to change from par, if necessary, then hit enter.

The scorecard appears and I input my score for the hole, including if I missed the fairway, putts etc. Go to the next tee and tee off. Usually it asks what club I take and I input that. Then almost always it asks me again for the previous hole score. It also sometimes does not move on to the next hole either and can get stuck on a hole. I just got really frustrated it with it, that I turned the feature off. I don't want to fiddling with the damn watch throughout the game, I need to concentrate :)
