Tactix Delta connected to smart trainer issues

I have a Tactix Delta, and an Elite Diretto turbo trainer and I use Zwift t train. 2 out of 3 times I can connect the watch to the trainer, tell it to free ride and it lets Zwift control the trainer resistance. On random occasions the watch will for some reason take control of the resistance, no longer letting it change when it should do. Does anyone know how to stop this? I want Zwift to be controlling the resistance

  • My most robust solution to this problem is to simply delete or disable the trainer on the watch. There is no need for it at all unless you want to follow Garmin workouts with erg control from the watch.

But, if for some reason you want to keep the trainer paired with the watch, try starting Zwift and get on course with everything connected on Zwift before you start the Indoor Bike activity on the watch. In my limited existence it seems to me that the watch sees and respects the existing connection. If you first start the watch and then Zwift afterwards then all hell breaks loose - basically no trainer resistance - and it is game over until you power down and restart everything.

  • Thanks. I keep it connected as i can’t seem to get an updated vO2 max etc if I don’t link it. Up until now it was working well starting the workout after starting Zwift, but today about 5k in I got a notification saying ‘trainer connected’ and then it reverted to no resistance, regardless of Zwift, and appeared to be controlled by the watch again!

  • You should link power, speed, cadence from the trainer to the watch. Power and heart rate are the two requirements in order to get VO2max.

The trainer connection might duplicate some of this data, but really it's only use is for the watch to control the trainer. Since you have Zwift this is not a function you need or desire the watch to perform.

  • Ah ok, thanks.

Are you able to explain how I can link those specific bits from the trainer to the watch, without doing the trainer connection?

  • I don't have a Direto, but a Tax Neo 2. My trainer can be paired individually as a power meter and as a speed/cadence sensor. It can also be paired as a "Trainer".

I assume that if you power up your Direto and search for sensors with the watch you should find a power meter and speed/cadence sensor offered. Possibly you would have to delete any existing Trainer pairing, but I don't know exactly how your trainer functions. I can only speak from my experience with Neo and Neo 2 trainers.
