Help regarding perceived effort questions after an interval run

Yesterday my Fenix 6s Pro prompted me to do an interval run. I have the watch for some weeks now and was excited to see it try to adapt to my personal performance.

The interval run was basically a 3 x 3 x 15" sprints with intervals of 3 minutes in each set and 5 minutes from set to set (too long intervals IMO). Anyways, after the interval run I was asked to rate it on a 1-10 relative perceived effort scale. Unfortunately I did not know how to answer it. I mean, should I respond regarding the work intervals only (that is, how I felt during the 15" sprints) or the entire session including the receoveries?

I know this sounds silly (to say the least), but I was thinking that there is no way I would be asked for the work intervals only, since they were 15" in duration only...

Thanks in advance for any information provided!

  • Yeah, sprint intervals are always going to feel hard.

I interpret this as to how I am feeling towards the end of each recovery interval. Am I fully recovered before the next effort interval? Do I feel I am fading towards the end of the workout, or can I still give 100% for each effort?

  • Hmm, I was able to reach my 1000% during these 15" sprints and keep within the time margins (high and low given by the watch). But 3 minutes of recovery was more than enough to get me up and ready for another 15" interval. In fact I needed 30" to catch my breath.

In this case would I rate this with a low RPE say 1-3?
