2 day comparo 7x vs 6xProSolar

Hello Gents,

Quick story: not worth the jump from a 550$ 6xProSolar(picked during sale) to a thou7xSaphire.Not now, at least.

1. Tested during skiing, 7x keeps counting few more seconds(up lift).2nd GPS blah not all that hype. Unless youre Killian. Had them both wrists, exposed to direct sunlight. Both lost about the same%.

2. Touchscreen needed(really ???).

3. Everything else much on par with the much (already) firmwared 6xPS.

So back it went,

It looks like a very small incremetal update.

The Fenix 5 to 5+ delivered far more with no large price increase.

Feels more like a 6+ to me.

I guess that they considered that an added touchscreen and worldwide mapping would merit to call it 7, on the other side they may intentionally keep some features under the sleeve to make people get familiar and consider buying Epix 2.
So I wouldn't be surprised that 7+ will pop-up in a year or so.

So here in the UK, a base Fenix 7 is £599 but you can get a Hauwai GT3 which has mapping, touch + the same screen as the Epix, and the same dual band GNSS chipset as the Sapphire models for around £270. And Huawai are MASSIVE so we are not talking about some chump no-name brand, they are far bigger than Garmin. You can now add external sensors as well, and have they have Firstbeat like metrics (they may even still provide them, they did on the GT2), and excellent GPS and excellent HR sensor that they have got very close to the Polar H10.

The titanium white Epix looks absolutely lovely, but I do think the Garmin pricing model is almost getting a bit Apple-esque - not really delivering much more than the competition, but getting people paying a premium for priviledge. I am sure some features are being held back.

I think for me the 5+ was a sweetspot that Garmin hit, both in looks and features - probably accidentally!

true, but probably if that will keep them from switching to subscription model than it's not that bad. As for Huawei, I'm a fan of their bands and watches as they really deliver nice products for a good price, the only things they lack so far is something comparable to Garmin Connect and integration with 3rd party services(which seems to improve lately). And they don't support external sensors, which is a shame...

Yep I agree - can't see any compelling reason to upgrade for my use case either.

As for the Epix - putting an AMOLED screen on an outdoor activity watch is like putting passenger car tyres on a 4 wheel drive, it will give you a smoother ride on bitumen.... but....

An Apple Watch is less than half the price of the White Titanium 6X. I think your comparison needs to be reversed.
