BUG: Garmin Fenix will not initiate sleep tracking if an activity is left in the "resume later" mode. 20.30

BUG: Garmin Fenix will not initiate sleep tracking if an activity is left in the "resume later" mode.

Yet there's no notification on the watch to advise of this and therefore sleeps will be listed as "no data" which completely throws all the watch data off, sleep, battery, averages etc

  • This is normal behaviour. The watch is still in the process of recording the activity. All day metrics monitoring is suspended until the activity is completed and saved. (My fēnix 5 Plus has always had the same behaviour too.)

  • just because it's pre-existing behaviour, doesn't mean it's "normal behaviour", this needs to be corrected in a software update. Any resume later activity should notify the user it's sitting in limbo. This is "unoptimized behaviour".

  • this needs to be corrected in a software update.

No software update can cope with the user forgetting to do something!

  • Noone is forgetting anything, a paused in background multiday tour should not interfere with stress and sleep measurement during downtime.

  • 100% thank you. I can't believe the amount of garmin fanboys on here that will try to justify a clear flaw on a garmin software, they don't even realize they're actually holding back the CI/CD process of software improvements through dev feedback.

  • This is not a bug. The functionality is not there because a developer cannot predict the behaviour of a minority of people. I don't think development will make an effort to implement something that is not needed as the normal action is to end the activity. Send it to Garmin as a suggestion because I think that a reminder message could pop up.

  • Are you sure? Activity tracking as part of “day metrics monitoring” is not suspended neither during an activity, nor in the special “resume later” state

  • To add to this. For multi-day activities the recommended method is to save at the end of each day. That way you won’t lose everything should there be a problem. The activities can be easily stitched together using a number of freely available methods. This has been discussed on several occasions as has this issue of sleep data etc not being recorded when an activitY is in Resume Later

As noted, the current operation of the watch is to assume an activity is paused, hence the software cannot be expected to assume someone will sleep during an activity.

I can't believe the amount of garmin fanboys

It’s nothing to do with being a fanboy or otherwise. The current way of operation is not a bug.  There is a process to follow to submit suggestions for changing the operation of the watch. Follow that process to submit any suggestions.  In the meantime, remember to save an activity before sleeping rather than leave it in Resume Later.

  • Well, it's good to know that the watch behaves like this. BUT, even in the Manual there is no note that the watch won't save all the metrics during Resume later. It just says:

    • To suspend your activity and resume it at a later time, select Resume Later.

If you read only that, then I would assume that the watch will behave like usual and I can resume the activity when needed, even if it's at another day. I was also thinking the same for multi day activities until I read this thread.

I'm not saying it's a bug, but it states that the watch isn't designed for multi-day activities. I would at least expect a note in the manual how to record multi day activities, even if it just says to save each day individually. This would reduce confusion.

  • There are many things that Garmin watches do that are not documented in the manuals. That’s one of the reason people come to the forums, to find solutions or suggestions. And that’s also why Garmin provide opportunities for users to submit requests.

it states that the watch isn't designed for multi-day activities.

    Where?
