Strange shiny area visible between screen and bazel

Hi Everyone,

I just noticed on my Fenix 6 (I don't have it since long time) a strange color area visible under good lightning and only under certain angles, at the edge of the screen (actually below it, where it mates with the bazel).

Looks almost like the "black" part of the glass (the one with the minutes markings around the screen) is missing some black pieces, and metal shines from below, couple of pictures to explain:

Also in another area, thinner but longer mark, between start and back buttons:

Aside from the fact that up to now I did not even notice, and now I am terribly bothered by this Smiley main questions would be:

- does anyone else have this? I am sure it's not on all Fenix 6 having access to another identical one which looks actually perfect

- if anyone knows where could this come from (initial defect, a repair - as watch comes from Amazon "used, excellent conditions" kind of purchase, or any kind of damage, though I can't remember any "accident" to the watch)

Leaving out the cosmetic factor, I am concerned there could be any risk for watch longevity and water proofing, in case that area is less tight - the watch was already couple of time under water with no issues, but you know......

Thanks to whomever will have the patience to read through this.

cheers,

Franco

  • I can't tell from the pictures but you should double check if it is a screen protector

  • Hi thanks, no there is no screen protector, it is actually below the glass of the watch, but i can understand that it's difficult to appreciate through pictures.. I tried Slight smile

  • If you think it's a problem contact Garmin Support.

  • Thanks, actually does not seem as it can really give troubles, again mine is more of a doubt it could if it is only my watch... So was trying to understand if anyone else had seem something similar.

Apparently not Smiley however since i bought this through Amazon as "used" (though looked completely brand new when arrived i am not sure Garmin support would help... I'll give this a thought!

    Cheers

  • How long ago did you get it? Maybe you can still send it back to amazon. If it bothers you, that is. Depending on how good of a deal I got on it, it might not bother me ;)

  • Well the deal was VERY good, basically got a bundle of 2 for the price of 1, can't get a replacement at same price, I would only get a refund even for a single one (which is still good...). Now, I am uncertain which one to keep, basically.

The serial numbers set them approx 6 months apart as production date (asked Garmin directly the production dates for both so I am sure)

The different production batches are evident, the newer one also has a slighly (around half mm) thicker bazel, which makes the whole watch of course slighlty thicker, it does look better side by side, additionally has perfect buttons clicks and it's a pleasure to use! I have the sensation that the display looks slightly warmer and better in colors but really almost unnoticeable difference, not a real factor for the choise. But has the glass visual defect I described in the initial post.

The older arrived with a (very very) light surface scratch on the bazel, barely noticeable, and buttons are not so perfect (the 2 on the right are very mushy, the center one on left has a very noticeable double click, which would not be bad per se but feel much different than all others). Other than this it's perfect.

The initial choise was to keep the newer one, and still I am leaning toward this mainly for the better buttons, but was trying to understand if the glass "weirdness" could pose any risks.

in the end, though I won't be allowed to return it in a some little more time, it is still covered by the 2 years Amazon standard warranty, so I guess it won't be that terrible if the mess happens later in time.

  • Hi, it's calle chariot, there are 2 version of it, one uses Garmin and the other OWM weather (check the description on ciq, can't remember who's which), both nice looking, informative and very power efficient (0.2 to 0.4 %/hr on my f6 regular, depending on number of notification I receive)

  • - does anyone else have this?

Honestly speaking I have never really paid attention to this, but I do have this on one of mine.

Never noticed it before until reading this thread - can't honestly say it bothers me in the slightest.

  • Thanks for the feedback, and yeah one aim of the thread was in fact to understand if anyone else had it, looks like something that "could be there" just as much as the mushy buttons or the blueish screen... kind of "normal" differences among the devices...

    thanks!
