Any of you fine Fenix users considering move to Apple watch?

Asking for a friend...

Really love the Fenix button layout and functionalities. Information is quickly assessed and essential.

Apple watch has a lot of clutter and shiny things, but seems to be improving, especially when concerned about general health monitoring.

The Apple watch battery drain can kind of be helped with adjusting certain settings.

Thoughts?

  • Garmin activities show in both Apple Health and the fitness app but you don’t get the same breadth of data. I’ve never even tried getting Apple workout data into Garmin.

  • Until apple doesn't make a 7 + day watch with ALL DAY display (none of this flick your wrist to wake *** I'm staying nice and cozy with garmin) IF they achieve that I may look into one some day.

  • That’s exactly what I have to do on my 6s Sapphire: charge it daily (or at least 5 days) during the shower to keep it charged. When doing hikes I need to charge it another hour or so.
Maybe for bigger Fenix 6 models or for those who only train indoors the numbers or charges could be less than that. Not for me.

My 6x does 1-2 hr gps activities a day and I still charge it once a week. Even with the 6S, that's bad battery life you're getting

  • I moved from Apple Watch to Galaxy watch since had enough of Apple's limitations (both iPhone and watch's), AW's battery life was (and is) bad for me since I wanted to go for a more professional tool than a daily gadget and monitor my sleep as well... with 24hrs battery I couldn't play too much, afterwards with galaxy watch 2 and 3 then I was not satisfied by the battery again (and weight of watch 3), my preoccupation was to charge both  smartphone and watch specially when on the move, also both AW and Galaxy were far too much fragile, I was used to wear it 24/7 and needed something more armored. I fell in love with my Fenix 6 Sapphire , a "tank" and with only preoccupation to remember where I left the charging cable last time I charged it Joy

  • I think you misinterpreted my post.

I charge it daily to keep it around 60-80% on average only for the time of the shower. Basically every day it consumes the power I can fill back in those minutes (15-20’).

The new AW7 only requires 45’ to charge it back from 0 to 80%, and given that it’s battery is now almost 2 days (that’s what most people get) in the same 20’, or just a little more, I may get similar battery trends.

So no, my Fenix battery life is not bad and no, switching to an Apple Watch wouldn’t change how I charge the watch that much.

  • Similar to other people here, I own both a F6 sapphire and AW7. I have been back and forth with this since the AW5 - sold it, then bought the 6, sold it as well, now the 7.

Now the AW is my daily, F6 sits in the drawer. What made me do the switch is the new Focus modes on IOS. I use them all the time, and the F6 simply cannot cope with them - you either get all notifications or none. Garmin developers, where you at?

Also the new fast charging of the AW7 is a game changer - 40min a day while in the shower/bathroom and you are at 100%. For longer trips of course I will be going back to my trusty old F6 (had it since launch day)

That's in Apples court. Much like SMS messages, notifications are locked as to what Apple allows from their walled garden.

I was under the impression that's pretty bad for the battery. The ideal is to charge when it hits 30% I believe. Why do you need it at 80% all the time?

  • The problem is Garmin device paired with iPhone, paired with Android you have zero problems. Apple makes it on purpose not allowing customization and flexility to piece of hardware without an apple stamp. I tell you as ex-Apple owner. Garmin Fenix + Android/Samsung works well. Even the 40min to charge it is a big limitation for me (many). I want to wear a watch and forget. Then, of course, Apple software and ecosystem is light years ahead from Garmin. There's room for improvement software-side, correct.
