Fenix 6s GPS Very Inaccurate. Is There a Fix??

Hello! My Fenix 6s GPS is way off and I’m hoping to find a fix! Today a 3.5 mile route was calculated as 5 miles and the map displayed on the connect app was completely off, including the starting and ending locations. I always wait for the GPS before starting an activity, and run this route regularly. Is there a known glitch lately? Thanks!!

  • Despite the post above implying this is normal behavior, it isn't. Measuring 5 miles on a 3.5 mile course is not normal, that's a 42% error, so something is going abnormally very wrong. Your accuracy should be well within 5%, most of the time it should be within 2%. Mine is usually within 1% except in extreme terrain. I run 5k and 10k routes from my house frequently, as measured on google earth, and the watch always measures the correct distance, to within 0.02 miles or so, by the time I've gotten back to my house.

Try different GPS settings - turn on 1-second recording, try the various GPS / GPS+Glonass / GPS+Galileo options, try turning 3d Distance on or off.

Also, use an alternate means of measuring your actual activity, to make sure it's actually the watch that's wrong, and not the distance you believe it should've been that's wrong. Measure on Google earth, or do the same course using another GPS device or two to verify.

If it still isn't working right after you've checked all of that and tried those suggestions, contact Garmin for repair/replacement.

  • Haven't you just messed up the km vs miles?
