Indoor Walk

Hey all,

I set up a profile for Indoor Walking where I copied the walking activity and just have GPS turned off. I also have a custom stride length set up at 2.25ft. This is 2350 steps/mi. I did 2 indoor walks last night to test the accuracy on distance

1) Wearing a HRM-TRI     1600 steps    .5 miles

2) Without chest strap      2143 steps    .56 miles

If the watch was using my custom stride length of 2.25m  the two distances would be -.68mi and 0.91mi respectively. Can anyone give me some clarification on why the values are so far off and a possible solution to fix it? I set up Indoor Walking so that the watch records it as a walking activity and not a run, as well as I will want to record indoor walking activities not on a treadmill. Many thanks for any info you can provide!

  • I also have a custom stride length set up at 2.25m. This is 2320 steps/mi.

Based on the value for stride length, I assume you have mixed the ft and m units. So first try to set the units consistently and repeat the walks and look if this solve the problem.

  • I didn't notice that I had put an m after my stride length in my post... It's 2.25 ft obviously not 2.25m. I fixed my post. I was tired when I wrote it and think I was typing mi for miles so I stuck with m's lol.

The units are set up properly on my watch. The watch just doesn't seem to be using my stride length in the activity. Just walking around during the day without recording it, however, it measures my distance properly based off my custom stride length.
