shortcut key to display watch face

is there a shortcut key to just display the watch face? I find the turn on on gesture to be finicky, and I prefer saving battery with the screen off and having some manual way to turn it on. The light button just turns on backlight (without the watch face), which I find weird/bug? I'm running a third party watch face in case that is relevant

  • yes its relevant. Have a look at your IQ-Store settings of that watchface. Maybe there is a power saving mode or something. On stock watchface youll just have the watchface as it is and on wrist movement, the watch enters a "high power mode" which activates backlight and in some cases the seconds.

  • My trick has been since Fenix 3 HR, and it worked both for 5 and 6 family members to assign “Widgets” or “Watch face” to the hot key “Hold DOWN”.
For F6 families the solution is “Watch face”, but I am almost sure that earlier it was “Widgets”.

And I agree with Maddi02, his/her answer is the reason behind. My answer is just a sort of “dont care why your wf behaves like that way, but this solution brings you back to the point zero”.

For me it always “woke up the watchfaces” I used.

  • Just as an FYI, the way Memory-in-Pixel displays work is the screen doesn't actually use power to keep pixels displayed on the screen. It only uses power when the pixels need to be updated. Unless you have some weird animated watchface or something, the watchface being displayed on your screen full-time is using negligible battery. Most of the draw comes from background processing the data for the watchface, which will happen whether or not you have your display turned off.

So there's really almost zero benefit to turning off your display. That's what makes the MIP screen special, and why Fenix uses one, instead of a battery-draining OLED screen.
