Fenix 6X Pro Navigating: Highlighted route on a moving map.

How do I get this working....

1. Moving map that fills the screen.
2. Highlighted route on the map.

I've tried so many things and no joy yet! I don't want any part of the watch face showing anything other than the map. No turn prompts or anything else.

  • Thanks for staying with me :-)

Do you mean Auto-zoom when you say Auto-scale? I've switched Auto-zoom off in Navigate settings. Still no joy.

What I mean by a 'moving map' is where your position is automatically kept in the middle of the watch face as you move. Just as you describe when you're following a course.  How do you change the scale of that moving map?

Navigate > Courses > My personal course > Do course
Route is highlighted with a broad purple line.
This provides a moving map but I can't work out how to change the scale of the map.

Navigate > Courses > My personal course > Map
Route is highlighted with a thin red line.
Static map. I can manually change the scale and scroll the map around but can't find a moving map option.

If you've got a highlighted route with a moving map (that you can change the scale of) then any idea what settings change I'm missing?

    Cheers.

  • How do you change the scale of that moving map?

When the map is displayed, press and hold the left center button (UP), Then the menu opens and "Pan/Zoom" appears.

How do you start navigation at all?

I come from endurance background (trail running) so I always do navigation as a part of recording a Trail Run or Hike activity. In that mode, if I follow a course, the map always moves with the current position. And yes, the route is highlighted on top of the map. I couldn't even imagine it would work any other way.

And zooming is done via the navigation context menu during activity as another person has already explained.

  • Brilliant. Thank you.  I think that does it and the moving map keeps moving.

  • I'm a mountaineer/hill walker.  This looks favourite on the Fenix for me...
    .
Import my route from a GPX file.
Navigate > Courses > My personal course > Do course
Long pressing the menu button allows the scale change that I was missing.

On the Garmin hand helds every GPX file has a show/hide option. Any view of the map includes those routes set to 'show'. Alternatives and escape routes can all be visible at once in different colours on the map.  It's simple, flexible and makes nav a doddle. Recording a tracklog is optional.  Between you and Bluefish I've now got the Fenix working well enough :-)  Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
