Fenix 6X Pro Solar vs Sapphire glass

Dear friends, i am in the market for a new fenix 6x. my dilemma is between the Pro solar and the Sapphire version. Cause of my activities(triathlon, downhill, hiking, rock climbing) my 5x Sapphire took a good beating(bezel is scratched, glass untouched). My question is how much weaker, if at all is the Pro solar compare to the Sapphire? Thank you

  • That seems to not be universally true. I suspect some sapphire from some vendors might, others doesn't. Mine definitely does not have any sort of coating on it that scratches off. However, I've seen some pictures of ones that do appear to have some sort of coating that can wear off. Might be something that changed mid-product cycle? Mine was a very early model purchased the day of release. Also, my sapphire is very, very reflective, so if it does have an anti-reflective coating, it isn't very good Smiley

  • What's the thoughts on if there will be a new tactix Delta released? It seems like we might finally be getting the Fenix 7, Instinct 2, and some other updated models soon. I have a Fenix 6X Pro Solar and unfortunately my screen scratched, and it must have scratched easily. I didn't fall or anything like that. Must have just knocked it against a doorway or something and boom, scratch. So I am in the market to replace it, and I really like the look of the tactix Delta, but I'm curious to see the upgraded software in the Fenix 7 and wonder if there will be a release of a new tactix Delta with the upgraded software or not. I know it's not a model like the Fenix, Venu, Vivoactive, etc that gets updated often. So it might only be this one version of this model that ever exists, or awhile before an update comes along. Decisions, decisions.

  • The next Tactix (Tactix Echo?) is probably a ways off. I would guess at least 6 months, maybe a year or more. But nobody really knows, there's been zero indications one way or the other. In all likelihood, it won't come out at the same time as the next Fenix.

  • I would go with the Saphhire glass.  I also put a screen protector on it for added protection.  If going with the solar, you likely would not want to put anything on the screen as it will likely negatively impact the solar efficiency which is already struggling to provide a significant impact in practical use.

  • Thank you for the response. I didn't even know there was one (Echo) in the works, but I figured it would be summer at best, and more likely one to two years away. I might wait and see what kind of software updates are on the next Fenix and see if there are enough changes for me to choose that over the tactix Delta or if I'll want to wait for the tactix Echo because of said software updates.

  • Do you know how I can remove the Saphire coating? Do I need special tools and be careful not to damage the bezel? Mine looks really bad.

  • Do you have a picture? It sounds like you're referring to the oleophobic coating on the sapphire crystal? If so, this will normally wear off over time although it's been known for the coating on new watches to become 'blotchy' quite quickly.

To remove the coating you can use a very mild abrasive (e.g. toothpaste applied carefully with an electric toothbrush) or Isopropyl alcohol and a microfibre cloth.

  • I didn't even know there was one (Echo) in the works

Just to be clear, I don't actually know that either, nor does anyone else... I'm just kinda assuming that Tactix Delta isn't the last one they ever plan to make, and that probably there will be one built on the upcoming Fenix 7 platform at some point.

  • In another thread, I have to search, it looks like a cheap scratched plastic display. Its impossible to sell that like that for the upcoming F7. So I want to get rid of the coating so it looks like new again.

I will try, that's all stuff I have at home.

    That's how it looks now:

  • Wow this really worked, even the deep one in the middle, I thought might be real, is gone. Thanks.
