Map upgraded become enable in all activity profil

Hello,
I have several map on my fenix 6X pro. I use them on specific activity to have more or less information depending on what i'm doing.
The problem is each time i make an upgrade on one of these maps, it become enable in all my acticity profile. An then I have to manualy desable it on every activity profil where i don't use thise map.
Is that normal ?
Thanks.

  • Yes it is normal, and probably works well for everyone without any additional added maps...

But for people like you and me(I have about 11 maps installed with 1.7gig spare, and 11 copied hike activities as well as many others) .... Means I have to rearrange settings in about 20 apps..... On the other hand it also will happen nearly everytime I upload a third party map... so it just seems to be the way the watch works.

At least we don't have to do this very often.... and I love that I can actually add the third part maps in the first place of course...

But yes it would be nice if the settings were preserved as before the update if it s possible.

    All the best : -)

  • Hi,

At my side, i only use one external map for trail/run, but each time Garmin update their maps, all are auto-enabled under each activity supporting maps...

We can do an enhancement request to manage Maps selection (enable/disable) through Garmin Connect globally or per activities ?

    www.garmin.com/.../

    Regards,

  • Yes I think also it would be nice to upgrade the whole backup settings structure altogether....in order to ideally save nearly all settings when we have our watches replaced for a fault etc... Putting a new Fenix back together the way I want it does take days... Usually about three for my settings and addions.... And you can't usually get your bird's-eye etc.. Subscription to transfer across to your replacement.... So then I have to ring Garmin who usually will offer me a refund of bird's-eye.. (because they don't know anymore how to transfer) ... Which is OK.... but then I have days spent loading satalite imagery tiles  that I've already downloaded but can't use.... This also could be much better again as it used to be transferable saving me days of work!...  Garmin officially removed the Fenix as a compatible item (it still works perfectly though)

So this will never addressed now I guess.... But at least I can still use bird's-eye.

  • I have submitted this enhancement request. It is not possible to track the request, otherwise we need to open a case.

    "Hi,

Garmin Fenix 6 or equivalent, when maps are updated, all the status enable/disable is reset to its default value of Enable.

Could it be possible, not modifying the actual configuration status for the corresponding map ?

Or could you add a management tool under Garmin Connect/Express to manage maps globally, or by activity ?

Because each time we have to go change it for each impacted activty directly on the watch and this is very long to do.

    Thanks in advance,"

"Thank You. Your idea has been submitted to Garmin. We appreciate your feedback."

  • I used another map, updated each month. To avoid this behaviour i use the same filename and it works.

For me, it explains the behaviour of map activation after an update, so Garmin need to provide a way to manage them.

  • You have 11 copied hike activities??

I'm curious what's different about the way you configured them. I'm a frequent hiker and have found just the one Hike activity to be perfectly sufficient. At one point I had a copy of it for snowshoeing, but with the new native Snowshoe activity I don't even have that  copy anymore.

  • Yes it is rather a lot,but there was a lot of unused space left empty... I only use it almost exclusively as a hiking watch, so I have loaded it with different OSM based maps, satalite imagery, transparent contour layers, a modified trail type file to convert my transparent trails map overlay into something more readable on any map,and even custom map themes..( found here on this forum shared by another user)

The reason for all the different OSM maps for me is I like options, to see which map, or map colours.. is best for a given location...

I'm genuinely interested in the watches capabilities, and run a Facebook forum group for Garmin watches and GPS devices, and have found alot or helpful information from users.

    Cheers, all the best..

  • Here are my main maps using copies of hike...  : -)

  • Interesting stuff! Now that I think about it, I do have a number of copies of the Walk activity for the various kinds of walking around I might do. There's the regular Walk, a treadmill walk one I made, and even one specifically for Disneyland trips Slight smile

  • I also like to experiment with the many 3rd party maps.

I don't keep separate activities per map but rather change them based on the current activity (which makes this issue less relevant, but still annoying)

I would just love if Garmin let us manage this on Garmin Connect mobile or web, would make these things easier to maintain.

Side topic - How do you decide which map to use?
