Looking for the rotate watch parameter ( like Coros )

Just switched from Apex Pro to Fenix 6X and I don't find the rotate option, like the one I used on my Coros Apex Pro

while keeping the watch on left wrist, I would like to rotate the watch so the 3 buttons which are very interesting during activities are accessible even with rain vest, while stoping / back are less interesting.

It's very difficult to use the 3 left buttons ( up / down / light ) with a rain vest, and I don't want to put the watch over since in trail you can fold / wear it from time to time.

I was doing this rotation with coros for another reason, the lap button was not protected, very annoying during trail activity ( accidentaly pressed against stick gloves or hand ) But at least the option is quite clear and easy to apply.

thank you for your help

Matthieu

Note:

I guess that would also make a correct watch for left-hander

Offering 4 ways to wear the watch:

main buttons on the left or on the right, left or right wrist

I have also read that gps reception was better on the right wrist, offering a 180 rotation would probably offer a good reception on the left wrist :)

  • It's a nice option that my Coros Pace 2 has, but it's not a Garmin feature unfortunately.

  • Send an email to Garmin as a feature request?

  • I don't think that option exist. However there is a button lock feature which is useful to make sure you don't press a button by accident, for those activities where you press start and forget about it, just let it record or look at one screen only.

  • thank you Martin, that was a problem with coros, no lock for the lap button, but in the garmin context I would appreciate to rotate physically the watch 180° so that the 3 important buttons used during activity ( light / up / down ) would be more accessible to my fingers even with a rain jacket ( or whatever jacket :) ). Currently they are too far inside the sleeve and on the wrong side :)

  • The Vivoactve 3 had this feature, but it has never been a Fenix feature.

For a watch to have that feature, it really has to be designed for that from the beginning. It can't really be added to the Fenix 6 without a lot of stuff not making sense anymore. The garmin logo would be upside-down. The button label orientations would look funny, and either the up/down buttons would operate wrongly or labeled wrongly. The "Start" button would be nonsensically located at the bottom-left.

Long-story short, flipping the watch upside down would screw up all kinds of stuff, so I wouldn't expect it to ever become a feature they add on this watch. Perhaps future watches might include the feature.

The vivoactive 3 only has one unlabelled button, everything else is operated via touchscreen, so it was quite easy for them to implement screen rotation on that model.

  • I really think it's not so bad, coros watches buttons are also labelled light and back/lap, when you rotate 180, the light button becomes back/lap, and vice et versa. Those 'wrong' labels aren't annoying at all since you act by instinct Slight smile who reads labels after few days ?

Ludovic Pommeret seems not to be anoyed by the wrong label while running the Diagonale des fous watch rotated 180° :) ( vertix 2 )

Garmin and Coros watches have very different button ergonomy, and it works for all of us with minor mind adaptation :)

I think it deserve a try, minor flows will be well erase by benefits for those who want to scroll easily data and use light quickly during trail / run etc activities, or even use up/down for notification in daily use in cold or wet environment with jacket   or left handers in "normal usage"
