Fenix 6x Pro won't power on

Was tracking a ride and when I got home, watch was off. I pressed the power/light button and the garmin logo came up and then disappeared. I put watch on charge for about an hour, tried to power on again, nothing, so I pressed power button for 30 seconds, nothing happens. I cleaned watch and connected to computer via cable nothing appeared, tried charging on a different power source, still nothing.

When connected to power, nothing shows on the screen.

Garmin support appears to only be available during the week so posting here to see if anyone know of anything else to try. Device was purchased March 2020.

  • Are the charging cable and the charger definitely OK? Do the charger and the watch get warmer when the charger is connected to the mains?

If that is certain, you could try the Secondary Master Reset (will wipe everything!)
Ensure the watch is powered off
Press and hold the Down, Start, and Back buttons
Power the watch on while holding these buttons
After the first beep release the Start button
After the second beep release the remaining buttons
The watch should now be reset.

or try to access the Service menu to see if that brings anything on the screen:
Ensure the watch is powered off
HOLD down the DOWN button, (bottom left) don't let go
while keep holding DOWN, power on by pressing light button and let light button go
wait a bit, don't let go of down, eventually service menu comes up

  • Thanks for your suggestions, I have 2 charging cables, one brand new from previous replacement. Neither work, power source is working on other devices. I have a mate who has a fenix, will test cable on his.

I tried both suggestions and nothing, so can only assume it's dead, will contact Garmin support next week when they reopen. Sure hope it's covered by warranty. I've owned 5 Garmin devices now and they've all had issue except my first device, the Forerunner 920XT, that thing is still working and a big reason I brought more Garmin. It's very disappointing, to have so many failures Disappointed

  • My Fenix 5+ had the identical issue you report and Garmin UK agreed to replace with a refurb. It was not a user fixable issue.

My retailer was not happy about it being replaced with a refurb so offered a refund or for me to pay the (small) difference to exchange for an F6 Pro. Worked out quite well tbh!

  • That's great to hear! Will update this post to let you know what happens

    1. This happened to me; it’s a corrupt .fit file in the Activities folder - the last one from your ride. If you can plug it into a computer via USB and browse the folders, find that .fit file with the date of your ride and delete it. Disconnect from computer. A hard reset should allow it to start up again.

That would require to to boot and get to the watchface before you can mount this as a drive to delete files.

If it won't even start, you can't do this.

    If

Not so. The watch can be plugged in to a computer powered off. It can then restart and make the files visible. As long as the cable and cable connector work and the watch is not completely broken, it will power up.

  • Thanks for the info, unfortunately when I plug it in, it's not visible on my computer :(

  • not visible on my computer :(

PC or Mac? If Mac you need Android File Transfer or similar.

  • Tried on both, then to be sure I tested my cables on my friends Fenix 5 and it charged and worked on both computers too, so it must be dead dead
