Corrupt? Fit file

2021-11-20-05-13-51.fit.zipHi there!  Is anyone able to "fix" this for me so that I can access the data and send this activity to my Garmin Connect account, please?  My Fenix 6s reset itself during saving my trail run yesterday! :(  All that I can see on my watch is the time, distance and average pace....  With a funny broken outline of the usual red running man icon next to it.  Also, would anyone know why this happened, or know whether it is likely to keep happening, please?

  • What version of software are you running? There was a known bug in 19.20 that caused this problem that's been resolved in the new 20.00 release.

  • Some fit files, such as this one, can be fixed by FIT File Tools, using the section remover without any adjustments. The result can then be uploaded to Garmin Connect Web using the Import Data page. I tested your file, so this works. Just change the activity type from "Other" to "Running." If you have any trouble with this process, let us know.

As for why, other than what  already mentioned (I see your fit file shows you're running Software version 19.20), here are some things to look at:

    • After verifying that everything has synced, backup then remove the files in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder on the device’s file system using these directions: Removing Recorded Activities on a Garmin Fitness Device
    • Avoid excessive button presses such as pausing during your activity. If you need to pause frequently during your run, consider turning on auto pause
    • Regularly check for firmware updates using Garmin Express
    • If issues with corrupt files persist, contact Garmin Support
  • Thanks for your help.  I am such a non-techy person ( i should have put that in my post!) but I am on 19.20, yes.  How do I update it?  Thank you!!

  • Thank you kindly for your help.  As mentioned, I am useless with technical stuff and I still don't seem to be able to get this into connect still.  I have used the section remover and re-saved the "fixed" fit file into my downloads but I couldn't see where to change the activity type....?  Sorry!!  Please help.  Is there any way you could maybe just send me back the file?  Or have a look at what i have here and tell me if i've gone wrong?  Its giving me the exact same error message when i try and import it manually through garmin express as when i try the original corrupted one - "One of your files was not accepted by the system. Please contact Support for assistance".

(I got nowhere with support - they just said it seems like it was a fluke and it shouldn't happen again....)

Thanks for the extra tips, I will definitely look to remove the recorded activities on my watch after i (hopefully) have this sorted.  I didn't press pause too often but i did once double press the lap button by mistake so that was a bit weird but other than that, i dunno!

    Thanks so much!fitfiletools.fit.zip

  • I still don't seem to be able to get this into connect still.

Go to the Garmin Connect Web Import Data page.

Click on the rectangle "Drop files here or Browse to select" on that page

Browse to your downloaded fitfiletools.fit file and open it

Now you should have fitfiletools.fit in the rectangle, then click on "Import Data"

    Click on View Details.

I couldn't see where to change the activity type

Click where it says "OTHER" on the top left corner of the activity, then select "Trail Running"

    Click "Continue" to confirm.

s there any way you could maybe just send me back the file?

No need, your fixed file is perfect. I would just be sending you the same file. You just need to upload it to your account as described above.

  • Thank you SO much!  Don't know what the difference was but now it seems to have worked absolutely fine, despite it not working the few times I tried it before.  THANK YOU!  Now to please confirm that if everything is in my connect account, I just delete it all off my watch? And update it!  Thanks so much again!

  • please confirm that if everything is in my connect account, I just delete it all off my watch?

Yes. Remove the fit files located in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder. There is really no reason to maintain them all on the watch (unless you frequently create courses from old activities) and it can only cause problems in the long run. Updating to 20.00 is probably the most important fix right now.
