  • Improved accuracy of Surf wave count algorithm.
  • Improved Explore Sync app waypoint load times.
  • Improved Lactate Threshold and Altitude Acclimation algorithms.
  • Improved measurement loading UI when taking an SpO2 measurement.

Setting to “Nightly” will set the device to only calibrate altitude at night. (Models without DEM maps will not perform continuous calibration during activities)
  • Fixed issue with alarms intermittently not going off when the device is set in Max. Battery Mode.
  • Fixed display issues on the device after navigating to a point initiated by the Garmin Explore App.
  • Fixed issue where selecting a single point on a map that contained multiple items would not display the items properly.
  • Fixed issue that would corrupt open water swim activity files.
  • Fixed issue where PacePro bands would not be recognized by the device.
  • Fixed issue with updating aviation data over wifi.
  • Fixed issue with activities reporting incorrect Activity Calories and Training Effect data.

We know this post states it is a public release candidate, yet the URL states it's a beta.  This is simply a method of delivery for public beta.  We use the same channel and therefore the 'beta' term follows each of these links.  We only note it is a public release candidate so that you are aware it's the proposed version to go live to the public.

  • Have I missed something? If I go into ABC settings > Altimeter I see Calibrate (manual/DEM/GPS) and Auto Cal. If Auto Cal, is off I see Nightly and the note to confirm elevation at the start of the activity. More than like a stupid question, but where are you setting nightly and auto cal.?

  • I've seen this mentioned a couple of times now, how do you actually save a location with the altitude you set manually?

I can't seem to find it in the manuals. :-)

It's automatic and undocumented. Helpful eh? It can sometimes be a problem when people experiment with setting elevations manually and end up with a saved location throwing the calibration out.

Some of the forum did a lot of experiments on an earlier Fenix model to figure out how it was working, and the behaviour is the same on the 6 Pro and can override the DEM. We never did work out how many locations it could save.

  • I'm beginning to get really frustrated by the auto Altimeter calibration now. I thought I'd worked it out by running through the steps I posted in the previous beta thread, but its back now to giving me completely wrong readings overnight again.

Its no wonder really, if I look at the Map on my Fenix 6 when I'm inside my house, it thinks I'm about 4 miles away from where I actually am.

Garmin - just let us switch the overnight calibration off please without having to use power saving workarounds and botches. Its an utterly dumb change you've implemented for apparently no good reason.

  • Hi,

same here. V02 Max decrease since 19.20. Training load ist wrong. Last sunday I got decreasing training load after a 2:45 hour run. Last month and this month I ran more then ever before an get decreasing training load :-(

    Altimeter ist total crap.

  • Still not getting it..Does that mean as soon as you do a manual calibration, it saves the location also?

If so, how on earth does it know my location as indoors I won't have any GPS lock

  • Use a hot key to save a location. I think default is to long press on the start button. Then you must wait for a GPS lock. It will suggest the altitude it believes is correct. If it's good then press the start button again to save.

If you are unhappy with the altitude proposed, I think you can back out of the "save location" function, set your altitude manually and then try saving the location once more. Or just set altitude manually to begin with and then save location. It might take a couple of goes for the altitude to stick as you wish it to be.

Alternatively (I've not tried this) maybe once in the "save location" function you can long press menu button, go to sensors and adjust altitude there, then finish the save.

Here are a couple of my saved locations in the car park. You can see from the scale that they are about 40m apart, with the car park symbol between them.

Here are the details of one of the saved points above.

And here is the altitude graph for the walk yesterday, starting at 17m.

  • All in all I'm going back to some earlier version because of a handful of minor issues that annoy me, Garmin suggested a full reset & wipe because they can't be reproduced, but that didn't fix any of them.

Several downgrades, resets, wipes and another install of 20.00 later..... still same issues. Not major ones.. so it probably won't be covered in warranty. Quite disappointed.

But the good news is: 20.00 is OK.

  • Thanks, found it now under map settings :-)

  • As long as you don't live on the 10th floor it works OK. And when you do live on the 10th floor and put your watch in battery saver mode at night, it won't calibrate at night, and should work OK too. It would help if Garmin would explain this mechanism better for all the folks who don't sleep on or near ground level.

One feature I still wish they would add (and I've been asking for it ever since they first introduced the nightly battery saver mode option), is an option to have the watch temporarily establish a phone connection while in battery saver mode, at the time when it's supposed to be doing the nightly calibration. Currently, the only way for nightly calibration and nightly battery saver mode to work hand in hand with each other, is to edit Battery saver mode to leave the phone connection active the whole night, which of course negates a lot of the usefulness of using battery saver mode at night. But it should be an option that we can choose to turn on or off, since like you said, some people intentionally do not want the nightly calibration to occur.

The code would look something like:

if calibration mode = NIGHTLY, and phone connection = OFF, and time = 6:00am, and setting = DoEstablishTempPhoneConnection, then:

    set phone connection = ON

(wait for phone connection to establish)

    (perform calibration)

    set phone connection = OFF

  • have the watch temporarily establish a phone connection while in battery saver mode, at the time when it's supposed to be doing the nightly calibration

Yes, I'd like that too. Over the last two days I've been too busy at work to run (always time for a quick forum post though ;) ) and my watch has drifted about 20m off with some fairly large pressure changes with the weather. Before I used battery saver overnight, it'd calibrate out by two floors, which would be better than the drift. Which was always my take on it, though I might well feel a bit different if I was on the 10th floor of course.
