Speed and Cadence sensors -- really always searching?

Have the garmin speed and cadence sensors.  Obviously they are used when cycling.

Observation: when I cycle through the sensors on the watch, the 6x seems to always report "searching" while I pass over the speed and the cadence sensor.  If the 6x really searching at that point in time?   Is there a setting  within the watch that essentially activates the searching for those sensors ONLY when its makes sense to.  Meaning like when you are starting up a cycling app.  It seems at that point in time is a good time to start searching for a sensor.

Any insight into this

thanks

  • No, they are not always searching.

Opening the sensors setting starts the search process. So whenever you check they are searching. But if you don't check, they aren't searching.

  • If you're in the sensor menu you can not only pair, connect, disable sensors, but also view attributes of the sensors and adjust settings. Things you can view might include software/firmware versions or battery status. If the sensor is not connected then some of this stuff will not be available. So in the sensors menu the watch will always try to connect, but only to the sensor you're currently setting displayed (I imagine), not all of them at once, although I'm not sure how you could tell.

  • It is searching in the menu and when starting ANY activity. But quite dumb.... If you go on a run (treadmill) i would connect to the trainer or the other way around. While riding on the trainer it also connected to my running pod a few times. Does not really make sense, but it is the way it is...
