New Surf 2.0 Available!

Hello everyone,

In our latest beta update we introduced our improved Surf 2.0 algorithm. You can find the latest beta update one level up in the main forum pinned to the top. We'd appreciate hearing back from our surf community regarding this improved algorithm. The main improvement you should see is better wave detection.

Just wanted to give some feedback after a decent amount of surfing:
Wave count is much more accurate. There still needs to be some fixes and limits for some recordings, especially speed.

Yes I know, but the units are different between activities like running or surf. During a boat activity you can see nautical distance instead of distance in km.

Hello. There seems to be an improvement in terms of detection but there are still too many waves accounted for. It was quite big the other day in Biarritz with 2.5m waves and long periods. I surfed 2 long waves but the watch recorded 7.

Also is there a way to add more statistics? Such as distance paddled and number of strokes. I know it’s not 100% relevant but sometimes when there are small conditions I paddle for training.

Anyway thanks for always improving the watch features.

Not in the Surf App, it's another App from IQ. TIDES

Is there a way to adjust the thresholds (like some of the alternative IQ apps) - as using that may allow users to better fine tune for current surf conditions.

But am delighted to see you guys continuing to work and develop this.

Hi Jeff

I've tried the old surf algorithm during a sup surfing activity but I didn't work. I think the algorithm doesn't recognize the waves if I catch them with a paddle board instead of a surfboard. I'll try the 2.0 with a surfboard in the next days.
I think it could be usefull to have SUP surfing app, is it in you development program?

Sup surfing would be great, if the detection is good enough it should be also added to the normal Sup activity, I often catch motor boat waves for fun during trips.

I've tested the new algorithm this afternoon but the waves wasn't good. I was with my sup and the app had found the right number of waves. The first impression is good, I hope to test it better tomorrow.

I would like to have a count of left and right wave catched during the activity.

The graph with the waves is really nice. I prefer the speed in knods instead of km/h.

Hey Jeff! Much better! So far it was much closer to the actual count. I'll get out and surf some more and see the discrepancies. (Florida)

Things like units and pace or speed should be customizable in the Connect App anyway and not a fixed settings with the activity.
