I ordered a Fenix 6 pro titanium on Friday as I fancied a silver watch to replace my Fenix 5+ in grey. I'm confident that the next Fenix will arrive in January with an AMOLED screen but I didn't want to wait and didn't want to risk there not being a silver version. January will mark 18 months since the 6 solar which was the update to the 6 akin to 5+. Garmin have been doing roughly 12-18 month releases with Fenix so January makes sense from a time perspective. They also just doubled down on fast screens in ConnectIQ so the tech is clearly ready too. I doubt there will be other significant updates which would change the use of the watch as it's pretty mature now.
witch one should you recommend?
That's for you to decide.
Sapphire glass reflects more and is darker than power glass, but is more resistant to carts.
Unless you work in the military, it's a design decision.
Except for the additional tactical functions and the domed glass on the Delta, both watches are the same in function.
Although both watches have the same diameter, I find that the tactix is visually a bit slimmer due to its design.
If you don't currently have a fitness watch that you use and like, then it's silly to wait, buy one now so you can start using it now. Personally I value my time a lot higher than whatever depreciation the watch I buy today might suffer when a new model eventually comes out. So you'll have to ask yourself it's it's worth going without any watch, for potentially many months, to save a few bucks.
As far as which one to pick, it mostly comes down to styling. The features that the Tactix offers above the Fenix aren't ever used by most people outside of the military, so if you aren't in the military then your experience will be the same on both watches. You didn't mention solar, but if you are wanting solar and sapphire then Tactix is absolutely the way to go, since Fenix doesn't come in that combination. If you're not going solar, then there's not really any difference besides styling.
And of course, if you don't want sapphire at all, then you'll have to go with Fenix, as I believe all of the Tactix models come with sapphire. Personally, I love sapphire, but some people don't like it because it's slightly harder for them to read the display. For myself, I'd rather have a display that's a little harder to see but not covered in unsightly scratches.
Many thanks!
Thank you!
Tactix D looks pretty cool, and if it had not been so expensive, I'd have chosen it. I like the the looks and the domed glass even though sapphire is a bit darker. Fenix 2 and 3 had domed 'normal' glass - more stylish IMHO. I use a screen protector on my 6 Pro and that makes the screen less easy to read, but it's better than having a it covered in scratches.
Just noticed a tactical function of the Tactix Delta: a "Kill Switch" 'to quickly remove all saved user data and reset all settings on the device to factory default values'. Is that just a hotkey combination for System - Delete Data and Reset Settings or something more? I like the idea. Not that I have an exciting job in the military or anything.

Basically yes - it's a button in the main circle menu (holding down the Light button), when you select it, it gives you a 10-second countdown (during which you can press a button to cancel it), and then proceeds to do a full factory reset on the watch and clear all of your user data off of it.
I kind of wish there was a "soft" kill switch, that only deleted your sensitive information, but didn't actually do a factory reset of all the settings etc. But I think it only presently has one mode of operation - clear the entire watch of all data, and reset everything to factory configuration. So you really wouldn't want to use it unless it truly was an emergency.
Thanks for clarifying this! Indeed a 'privacy wipe' would be even better, for emergencies only it's still good to have.
Currently, the Fenix 6s Pro that I own is almost useless - about one order of magnitude wrong in the displayed "Total Ascent" in every activity, regardless of speed, distance, country and weather. This is a known problem and Garmin do not care. So, if you care about elevation, altitude then the Fenix 6s is a BAD choice.
1) surely you're using your watch for more than just elevation tracking, so "almost useless" is an exaggeration.
2) it's a new bug, it worked fine for most people before that, and it'll work fine again after they fix it, probably in the next update.
