How to sync Connect with smartphone steps ?

Hi  i come from apple watch and galaxy watch...love my fenix but it ignores steps that my watch+smartphone were tracking before (one or the other). So now after thousands of steps out for shopping pushing a cart...it's...zero steps! My weekly stats are unrealistic now. How to use smartphone steps or sync them with Connect ?

  • pushing a cart

Could be the problem. If your wrist was stationary due to holding on to the cart, then the accelerometer wasn't picking up steps. Try putting your watch in your pocket when pushing a cart.

  • You can't sync steps back to the watch. Personally I see a similar problem as my wife is wheelchair bound but I'm not too bothered about steps per se. You could either put your watch in your pocket, or push with one hand... I do both :)

  • Thanks for your suggestion but i dont want to change my habits and behavior...it should be the watch adapting to mine...able to use smartphone's sensors that are indeed recording my steps at all the times. Merging them..hence my wish that Garmin syncs those in Connect when watch's are "unreadable". I run 30km/week and walk a lot ... using my wife's Galaxy watch I miss a good 50.000 steps a week ! With a watch that costs 3 times more...so for now i collect the data manually GrinningGranted the Fenix is a professional device and tool but wearing it 24hrs to have accurate tracking while its not the case ... pity.

I wrote a Feedback to garmin.

Then you should return the Galaxy Watch.

  • Also with a kind of loose grip you could get your wrist swinging and counting.

My impression is Garmin only reads from Garmin sensors as they can validate them. Allowing third party input of steps etc would allow the possibility of fake inupt. Look at the way people cheat on Strava challenges, you'd see a same with step challenges.

Plus you'd be hard pressed to find many watches register steps accurately when pushing something. They work by accelerometer measurements and if your hand doesnt move....

  • If you use an iPhone, you could use Apple Health app to view your total steps. Garmin Connect can sync steps to Apple Health. From there, it's Apple's job to merge them with steps recorded by your phone.

I'm quite sure Android has an app similar to Apple Health which can do the same.

  • Fair enough...Garmin Connect should "simply" connect App to App (without manual stuff) to ie Samsung Health and get the Steps from the smartphone..that's it...I tried and this is not possible, I've now both Health measuring Steps via smartphone and the Fenix's, so I have to manually merge...but they'll never appear all together in an holistic view....

  • I think it's the other way around. Garmin is the source (or one of multiple sources) whereas the Health app is the aggregator.

  • Ah yes it can be but...one way or the other...both Fenix 6 <> Samsung Galaxy smartwatch or (app-wise) Garmin Connect and Samsung Health Apps on the same smartphone...don't "see" each other, no way, I tried everything.
