How to delete ALL music from Garmin 6X pro

I am trying to delete all music from my Garmin 6X Pro before adding more. Both Android Transfer and Garmin Express seem to be unable to delete certain files which mean I still have the parent folders on the watch. For example if I try to delete Nirvana - Nevermind it refuses to do it, although with no warning message. if I go into that folder I find I can delete all songs except for one which means I still have the Nirvana folder remaining. This has happened on about 10 files and is not a new thing for me.

So far I have reset my Mac, reset the watch but nothing is changing.

Is there a way I can see Garmin folder/files in the Mac finder?

Anyone have any experience of this?

  • With the Mac, unfortunately it is AFT as it doesn't support MTP natively..

There's not non-alphanumerical characters in any filenames are there?

  • One thought - what happens if you rename an offending file to something simple like deleteme.mp3

    Can you then delete that?

  • You should be able to plug your watch into any PC and browse the files, and delete the music files. No special software or drivers or anything. Just plug it in, open up the Garmin Fenix "drive" in My Computer, delete the songs. Even if you don't own a PC, it shouldn't be hard to find someone/somewhere that does have one.

  • Just found https://openmtp.ganeshrvel.com/ and looks open source. I'll give this a try later tonight but it looks like it adds a kernel driver so watches should appear in Finder

  • Scratch that - it's an app not a driver and doesn't seem to work for me. I thought OpenFuse night have an MTP driver - looking

  • Sweet....waited an hour for 600 .m4a files to be transferred via garmin express after deleting all other files.....all old files still there and only 22 of 600 new actually on watch.   awesome.   no solution to this ridiculousness?

  • try:  www.android.com/.../

I could see folder structure of watch using the above app on OSX.

went to music folder, selected all and deleted.  i could delete everything except one song.

then opened in garmin express, went to music, selected music on watch and the only song visible was the one i could not delete using the other app.   turns out I cannot delete it with garmin express either.

have started to transfer the new songs........again.     10 songs/minute SAF!

    hopefully it works.

  • Hi guys,

I had the same issue and just now I was finally able to deleted all the songs from my watch, but not after hours of trying on my own and spending some time on the phone with two Garmin agents. Unfortunately, they couldn't help me over the phone and sent this email for me to reply with too many steps to follow. So I decided to try once again on my own.

Basically, I had over 100 song in my watch and I was having issues with the songs stoping, stalling and speeding up on its own. So I try deleting them and I couldn't for days. So I decided to delete Garmin Express from my Mac and reinstalling and repeating the process of deleting the songs. After that I was able to delete mos of the songs, but 11 remaining ones. The I decided to delete the remaining ones one at a time and that worked for 10 of them, but one remained. After trying everything I could possibly think of, I decided to restart my computer, restart the watch, deleted the song from my iTunes library, reconnect the watch and follow all the deleting steps again and it worked.

Honestly, I can't tell exactly what worked, but those were the steps I took and it worked. I hope it helps.

    Good luck!!

  • Hi.

I had several folders with music files (synced with iTunes). Renaming these folders helped me to delete them. Windows 10.
