LONG delay when connecting to HR chest strap on 19.20

I want to see if anyone (since 19.20) now has been experiencing long (apx 3 or 4min) delays when connecting to external HR chest straps.  I have two straps (Garmin and Polar) and they take apx 4min to connect.  I have tried everything.   Just wanted to know if this is the case for anyone else?

  • I have 19.20 installed, just tried my HRM-Run, and it connected pretty much instantly.

  • I've got four straps, Polar OH1/Verity Sense and two HRM-Pro, one good and one faulty unit, but all connect without delay. The faulty unit does reconnect more than the others though.

  • Thank you.  Can you try one more thing for me..  Can you connect to the strap.  Then, back out of the activity, remove the strap.. wait about 2 - 5min.. put the strap back on and see if it re-connects with no issues, or if there is a long delay to now re-connect.  The bug we are trying to chase (I am working with Garmin on this) is on sequent reconnects.

    Thank you for checking!

  • Mine reconnects without issues.

  • I have 3 straps, Wahoo Tickr V2, Polar H10 and Polar Verity Sense and connection is pretty much instant - all via ANT+

  • Thank you so much for checking.  Looks like I have a defective unit.  Mine takes exactly 4-min to connect to any external HR strap and I have two different ones.  Yet, my old Garmin watch, and my Edge 530 will connect instantly like yours.  Tho, my watch is different, its the Marq Aviator, but no one is replying in that forum, and it runs the same software as F6.

  • Never used a Marq but have you tried a master reset? Either via System/Reset on your watch or this method. If you do and wish to restore your settings afterwards, backup first.

Just tried. Got an instant reconnection on opening the run activity the 2nd time.

Not sure whether "I have tried everything" includes removing the current pairing of the watch to the strap, and pairing it again. (Mentioning this for completeness, just in case). I'm not sure that pairing imported through Garmin Connect works as smoothly as natively pairing it with the watch.

  • Thank you so so much for doing that.  Big help.  Yes, I tried deleting the sensors from the watch and then re pairing.  Same results.  Its so strange, why on earth would it take so long to connect each time.  Its as if the watch is "sleeping" or something and only "looks" for external signal every 4-min.  So, so weird.  I am going to RMA this watch and buy another as its only a week old.

  • Thank you, I will give that a try today.

One thing I wanted to also know.. when I pair a HR strap that uses both BT and ANT, (I see when I pair it, it is listed twice in the sensor list).  How can I only use the ANT method?  Do I need to delete the BT one listed?

EDIT - FIXED!  The full factory reset that you listed fixed the problem.  NICE!  Still, wonder why this happened?  But, it looks like it connects and reconnects instantly again.

EDIT #2...  just did a 40min workout.  Finished, sat down for a few min.. and tried to connect again to the same strap... problem is back again.  so... no fix :-(   New watch on the way...
