feedback on 19.10

Got my 8 months old fenix 6 pro updated 3 days ago. I saw under the web taht 19.10 was available for me, so i hooked it up to my PC and launched garmin express.

I have been running 12.20 since i got the watch in January. I did not see any reason to update to any new firmware until 19.10. Woth 12.20, i have had no ohr issues, no battery drain, no pulse ox randomly starting and ble issues or strap disconnecting.

I had to leave the watch connected overnight to update the 10 gig of maps on my slow wifi. In the morning i had everything updated except the gps that was still at 4.40.

I think something is missing with the install as the second part with the gps does not update. At this point, i could update manually from a beta file or just leave it at 4.40. To tell you the truth, i live at the beach, with no trees and open sky and gps has been good. also, now most of my workouts are indoor cycling on a smart trainer or strength training at the gym. So gps is not needed.

I turned off the watch and power it back on. For the past 2 night, i had no battery drain and have not seen the pulse ox coming on.

I tested the ohr as i am anal about that although i use a polar H10 when i workout. This is the way i test it. I have my chest strap connected to my phone to give me live hr. I wear the fenix a little higher on my forearm and go up and down the stairs to get my HR go up. Then i press the bottom left button and i see the hr widget. Hr matches the strap, sometimes witha litle lag. I do not start an activity as that usually checks out fine. I am aware that some users have ohr issues and it is true. I had two 6S before my 6 pro and by doing the same test, the ohr would stop at 80 bpm while i was more than a 100. So i am not sure why it happens to some and not others. I did notice that the green light on my 6 pro are very bright while the ones on my 6S were kind of fluctuating in power.

All my activities and 3rd party sensors were there.

So at this point, the update went smoothly.

Also the gestute works like i had it in 12.20. The backlight comes on at sunset when i raise my arm and turn off when it is time to go to sleep.

The only thing is that i did not get the screen that asks for my rpe after cycling. I went under settings and switched the option under self evaluation to always. I will see on monday if that did the trick.

Gramin may have stopped the push process right now to fix the gps not getting updated. That is why it shows only 10 %. Just speculating here.

  • (The GPS issue I was able to fix by using the 5.3 from beta)

I have severe disconnect issues with 19.10.

The last run BEFORE the update went smooth. No disconnects with my Stryd (ANT+) and BT headset at all, as usual.

The first run AFTER the update showed about 20 disconnects within 45mins. I had to reconnect the headset by hand everytime. (Stryd was auto-reconnect; luckily ;-) )

It's not one-time problem, it occurred also with my next run The only thing I can do to get it a bit toned down is to run w\out BT headsets connected. This way I still have Stryd-disconnects but not as many as when running with BT headsets connect.

I did a hard shutdown (long-pressing left upper-button) already as well as the usual GPS soaking. That's what I do for every update. So this proposal wouldn't help.

Anyone else? I never had such issues before.

  • I have a polar H10 and a cadence sensor connected via ant+. I also have my smart trainer connected via bluetooth. I have no dropouts.

I listen to music directly connected to my phone that controls the smart trainer.

Could be an issue between the headset and the watch. I will try to hookup my headset to the watch and put some music on it and ill try in 2 days. I'll get back to you

  • Thanks, maybe it's related to some ConnectIQ changes. Stryd actually needs a CIQ datafield as well as the Spotify integration. Maybe there is some side-effect that causes the drops. I'm pretty sure that ANT+ with a native supported external device will work quite solid (I could use my HRM-run to test).
