Improved Button Lock Needed

Hello Garmin Folks/Fellow Users,

Thoughts on an improved button lock, specifically for use when rock climbing?

I like to use the "Indoor Climbing" activity, even when I'm rock climbing out door as way to track metrics.

But you simply CAN'T wear the watch on your wrist while rock climbing.  Just not possible to shove your hand/arm into cracks and jam with a large watch on, so that means it ends up in my pocket.

Probably 25% of the time I do this, I pull the watch out at the end of a climb to find that the combination of wearing a harness and the act of climbing has held the button lock down long enough to unlock and stop the activity or changed functions on the watch.

Anyone else run into this problem?

Is there a way that a two button hold could be used to lock/unlock as a user option or for specific activities where you have to shove the watch in a pocket?

Thanks,

Bill

  • Yes there is. Settings > System > Hot Keys includes combinations like Start and Down and Back and Up which you can use for lock/unlock keys. Among other things, makes it much easier for triathletes pulling wet suits on and off - you may well press one button but you probably won’t hold down one on the other side of the watch at the same time, so you’re much less likely to unlock keys and hit lap to go through transition by accident.

  • mcbadger,

Never knew it was possible to select button lock from that hotkey menu.

Going to use start and down now, and I bet that solves my problem.

    Many Thanks,

    Bill
