My Fenix 6s records around 10 times the distance when I am open water swimming.

How can I correct this?

  • The subject on OWS distance seems to have no end or resolution unless I missed it. I have a Fenix 6 Pro, 19.20, GPS 5.30 and I’ve always seen between 8-30% difference in distance (mostly shorter than actual) compared to other swim mates devices and posted distance. If I transfer activities to Strava and do a “Correct Distance” I see distances that both agree with posted distances and swim mates devices. Strava has a nice write-up on how distance is calculated with the option to correct distance. From what I’ve seen on this forum the suspected  problem has to do with GPS-based, device approach to compute distance due to the complicated nature of this “real-time” calculation that can lead to stuck points, where no additional distance is recorded from the previous point. I’ve tried the suggestions of changing the GPS settings including 1sec recording time to no avail. I’m I missing something or must I transfer my activities to Strava to see actual distances (that does impact other measurements)?
