Missing Maps???

My watch came preloaded with Australia maps (which is great).

But when COVID recedes a little and people start traveling again I plan to venture in S.E Asia...
There appears to be NO TopoActive maps for Asia!!??

I did a google and found references to people who had purchased the watch in Asia, and that said maps came preloaded on the watch ... so they must exist!

Also I noticed that on the Garmin store page, there are also NO TopoActive Australian maps; even though they are loaded onto my watch!

Where can I get maps??
And if Garmin has them, it seems a bit silly that they don't want to sell them!

I am aware of this; but the TopoActive (at least the Australian ones) appear to be much, much better for hiking trails, which is extremely important to me.

May be worth trying a few different OSM maps though. I agree with the trails one, but some people do concentrate on trails - for example, there's a Thorns Map for the UK that has Rights of Way on it that other maps don't. May be worth installing Garmin Basecamp, trying a few different people's maps to see if something may work as a secondary one in case you can't get a TA map perhaps?

Out of curiosity; is the Australian one available for you?

I already use BaseCamp, and as you can see I have TopoActive Australia... which doesn't seem to exist on their store!

Also BaseCamp is really, really slow... I suspect it is loading the maps from the device; there was a progress bar for the maps when I first plugged it in and I assumed that it was transferring the maps from the device?? ... but they don't seem to be cached on the computer and only work when the watch is connected..

Any suggestions on how to speed it up ... right now BaseCamp is completely unusable!

Just that for one time let it index them. That index is slow the very first time but is much faster there in. What I did was let it index when my watch was very low on battery so it did the indexing whilst charging.

Also if you dont want that at all, you can cheat. Copy the maps to a SD card and use that plugged into the computer to let Basecamp access them instead for routing/display and dont use the maps off the watch. I have a 32gb sd card with all my maps copied on it and so I don't worry about the indexing - but I can use the same maps I have on the watch and ensure routing is the same etc
