this is the official reply from Garmin's engineers (thanks to Chris)
Hi Andrea,
Thank you for clarifying the issue. Our engineers have stated that there cannot be an "_" underscore in the name. The underscore will need to be removed for your Fenix 6 series to be able to connect to Wi-Fi. My sincere apologies.
Kind regards,

my old thread
it's just a couple weeks I'm struggling with my brand new Fenix 6x pro and it's wifi feature. This is what I've noticed so far: If the SSID contains special chars (I have both '_' and '.') the 6x isn't able to use the wifi to sync. Thus it can correctly setup the wifi via Garmin Express [WIN10], Garmin Connect [Android] and even directly on the watch itself. Furthermore the "Network Connection Test" in Garmin Connect show you the "connection successful" message, but the sync will fail) making in harder to diagnose the issue This is an awful worsening even compared to the 4 years old wifi stack of my Fenix 5x which can actually sync via the same wifi without any issue. I mean the lack of 5GHz support is already ridiculous in a 2021 device....but that issue with the SSID name is really an offense to the customers (and the support behavior is like a turd it on top of the cake) Despite there is no indication in the Garmin Wifi setu about this limitations....the Italian Garmin Support states: "itf the Fenix 6x wifi sync can happen once...than the watch is ok for us. It's your network fault and you should ask a networking technician" The matter is I am a network engineer.....and the wifi is ok Really embarrassing support for a device costing more than 600$ FW: software 16.70, wifi 2.60 |
